It's about time for me to clean install windows again, my cpu is a little "Dirty". I was wondering if anyone could help me with programs I should install once i'm done. Here's a list of the progs i'm using now:
1). Norton Systemworks
2). Roxio Easy Cd/DVD Creator 6
3). Ad-Aware Pro
4). Spybot
5). Microsoft Office
I'm looking to maybe find an antivirus that will use a little less disk space and memory than Norton...but i do like the error checking in Systemworks. Also, Roxio seems to be a pain, are there any better progs out there. I like the DVD creator in Roxio, I only have a CD Burner so the ability to create VCD disks is desired. Any ideas on what to do...freeware/shareware/over expensive products...all recomendations are welcome!!!

for an anti-virus, you could use nortons corporate AV, i usually forget i have it till i update it. or even AVG which is free btw and an exellent alternative to the rest.

as for the burning app, dump easy cd/dvd and go with nero.

as for the rest, you should continue to use them if you use them

Alot of people will tell you that Norton systemworks is resource intensive and unnecessary....I myself use just the anti-virus program. As for the error checking, I usually try to keep my pc clean and not clutter it up with unnecessary programs...keep your registry clean and use disc cleanup and defrag regularly. Following those guidelines, I`ve never personally had a problem that windows regular disk-checking cant repair itself.

AVG Antivirus has a free version available of it`s product on its website available and alot of people use that.

Spybot and ad-aware are both good products that I would stick with.

Nero is a good replacement for Roxio (shudder) anything...

As for MS Office, there are several packages around...you could try StarOffice...I believe you can still get a free version of that and from what I remember it is Office document compatible...If I`m wrong, I`m sure someone will correct that here.

Good luck!

Here's what I would use.

1. Norton corporate Edition
2. Nero Burning ROM
3. Spybot
4. MS Office 2003

Since you're posting on a filesharing BBS.....I don't think aquiring those will be too hard. ;)

BTW, this is what I use, my house network uses, and most of my friends use. It works great.

Oh, if you're looking for a free alternative to office, try openoffice. Its an open source MS office "clone".

3). Ad-Aware Pro
4). Spybot
5). Microsoft Office

I'd switch the Systemworks for a combination of AVG 7 and ZoneAlarm Pro and EasyCD for Nero 6 and Alcohol 120%.

Standard version of norton antivirus takes about 50MB.
I hate all the extra features in the pro version of norton antivirus.

F-Prot Antivirus
Kerio Personal Firewall
AdMuncher
Nero Burning ROM
MS Office 2000

No spyware program required if you don't install shite software in the first place.

Nuff said.

well avg is good i use to use norton and they were ok.
but every week norton would get corrupted.
now i use antivir, and antivir seems to lack things to it gets corrupted.

avg can catch viruses.
norton i might go back to it i dunno
and avast is buggie as hell.

mcafee i might go back to it as well.

and i like alcholol.
if u ever wanted to do anything in your life you should try alcohol.
when u start using alcohol you will never go back to anything else.

i mean nero is excellent as well.
btw when i say alcohol i mean the program alcohol not the drink.
