i got my usb 2 ipod cable today, hooked up the ipod with it, and my PC said that i was hooking up a high speed usb device via a non-high speed usb port or somthing like that. the usb port its hooked up to is usb 2.0. it is a 5 port belkin PCI card. now i cant really tell weather it is transfering at usb 1 or 2 speeds. so far its put 325 songs on the ipod, taking about 1/2 an out so far. so is this slow? normal? am i doing somthing wrong? ive tried changing usb ports, but it says the same thing. any help would be much appreciated.

that high speed usb device connected to a non high speed USB device, Simply means that the ipod(Being the high speed Usb 2.0) is connected to a non high speed usb port(pc, most likely still below a 2.0 port). 2 things to check for make sure the driver for your USB 2.0 card is installed correctly. If not then 2. I would check the media that you are trying to transfer the data through (making sure it is USB 2.0 cabling). Lastly you said 325 songs in 30 minutes well thats like 1.43 gig rough estimate based on 4.4 meg file size of each mp3. that is slow that is real slow. From that data you provided it is ivedent that you are transferring using the old USB 1.0 speed. IF it was 2.0 it would have been much faster. Lastly you might check if your current os supports that card driver etc. Compadability is very important in MS products( a *itch I know) need any other help with it post it here I will try my best to help ya.

1/2 an hour for 325 songs?

if you use itunes, and your music is under 5mB per song, no...

personally, if you can get return the usb2 card, do so, and get a fw card to replace it. the ipod performs much better over firewire.

if you don't want to, since you already paid for the card and cable, check the drivers for everything. i've had problems with windows not installing the ipod properly before, and i've had a lot of problems with windows and usb2.

ahh... when i got the card, i just plugged it in and let windows recognize it and use default drivers. i went to belkin's site and got the drivers, installed, and restarted, then tried a 100mb folder of music. it only took 15-20 seconds. problem solved.

one more question though - ive noticed that the ipod doesnt retain folders. is there any other way to group some files other than playlists? i dont really want to make ~125 playlists, but i guess i will if need be.

:)

the ipod uses its own filing system...

so in other words, yes, the only way to select songs are through browse, and playlists.

in fact, i think your win ipod uses fat12... so that would be the reason why the ipod needs to use a special filing system...

ok... ive downloaded a program that i think will make .pls files in each dir and then ill search the master dir for pls files and import them in itunes. hope that works.

humph... ive downloaded 2 programs so far, but neither did what i want. all i want is a program that will make a .pls file named after the folder its in, with the names of all the mp3s in that folder. anyone know of such a program?

based on what isus said(being that ipod has it's own FS) in order to modify add/delete play or whatever you would need some apple software I am guessing Itunes could do the job.

For an alternative check EphPod (http://www.ephpod.com/).

you can (and i do) have the ipod set up to be a removable hard drive that windows can easily access. based upon the fact that you can use it with windows 2000, and the fact that it retains full names, not just the 7+3 names that fat16 uses, i would assume that it uses fat 32. anyways, all i need is a program that will create a playlist of all the mp3s in a folder. it also must take the playlists name from the directory that the playlist resides in. if anyone knows of such an app, id be very thankful. ive tried 3 or 4 programs so far, none of which have done the above. i dont really want to install any more crap programs.
