'Cleaning' Overnet, anyone to help?

Hey everyone, as the subject applys, Im trying to make a 'clean' version of overnet, So far ive gotten the "register" button and the register banner to disapear but i cant figure out how to get rid of the banner ads or to change the web homepage.

Sofar, to try do the banner ads, ive tryed making 5.html read only, adding <noscript> to it, nothing works. Im gussing im gonna have to hex edit the exe to get that, but unfourtinatly im horrible with hexing, anyone have any idea?

I have no clue what your talking about or how to help...but I just wanted to say that I hate banners and if someone made a clean version of a prog I used with no banners, i'd be first in line to dl

Banners are the enemy Criminal, lol. Basic Overnet has these ways of advertising.

Pro Banner - banner shown to advert the Pro version (gone)
Ad Banner - same place as Pro banner but flash or animated images
Reg button - button u click to register (gone)
Serial Code enter on install - self explanitory (will be gone after everything else is done cause im gonna make a spyware free installer)
Pro tab - tab in the options

So basicly i need help with what i cant get rid of so far. I also plan to make it look better after i have the banner gone.

EDIT- using the windows/hosts file i got the banner to show "Action Cancled" but id still like to stop it from redirecting in the first place, O well I guess this will do for now, I might release a installer tommarow

If I had the skills, I prolly would. lol. The truth is, everything I am doing to get rid of these ads have all been flaws that overnet didn't think about I guess. I havnt been doing any real hex editing or anything that K-Lite did. If no ones going to suport it I may just make it for myself, but I realy thought other users were wanting the same thing.

Update - It seems I'm stuck with where im at so at the moment im working to making a better interface (skin) then Ill release it.

I'm going to need somone to make an installer for me, I dont have the time to learn to use nullsoft installer so if anyone knows how, PM on AIM: bloodien0se

Also pm me if you would host it for me, at the moment the only webspace i have is what my ISP gave me, and if overnet compains to my isp, it wouldnt be good.

Here's an Idea, why not shut up when speaking about something you know NOTHING ABOUT! Overnet has NO SPYWARE. It offers a few things during installation, but it is not required to install any of the components except overnet itself. As far as the 300x100 banner, get over it. It isn't even search based I.E it will not show relevant ads based on what you search for, it just throws up random advertisements.

The advertisments are SO tiny, they take up no resources, hell overnet doesn't even feed you Explorer based popups, yet you people find something to bitch about. people with your mindset do not deserve good programs for free.

1: Overnet has the least obtrusive advertising you could ever find...it's a wonder that anyone is willing to pay to advertise on Overnet as it is virtually unnoticeable. It also seems strange that they manage to take $20 from people to remove ads they don't notice or read.

2. I have never met a vigilante fanboy or even heard of one but I would say no. And however much you obsess and dream about people taking it in the ass (btw is that an ed2k pun?) it's not my taste. Sorry to disappoint you big boy.

ah, sorry, my mistake, direct downloads from tripod servers don't work properly for most people due to the referrer checking. I am using proxomitron to fake referrers on the fly, so I totally forgot about this restriction. I just edited the link, now it should work. you'll be redirected to the server, where you can click the link, so the referrer will be correct and the download will start. sorry for that.

hmm, should work. have you put it into the plugins directory and restarted the programme? I can't say for sure whether it works with overnet, although the nfo file states so. I've tried only with the latest version of edonkey hybrid and it works just fine. I've put the dll file into the plugins directory and started edonkey, the is gone, edonkey identifies itself as the pro client now and the upload ratio is disabled

Yes, I can see Overnet developing into a spyware infested cluster-fornication like KaZaA with all sorts of nasties after it becomes VERY popular, after all look at Edonkey 2000. Wait, nope EDonkey has been around for what can be considered as eons in P2P years and has NO spyware. Very wise to draw assumptions about MetaMachine's future plans based on what Sharman does.

if you block the corresponding ip address to your hosts files then when you are doing p2p filesharing and you have overnet opened up the ip address of the advertising agency will be block.

then you will so no more advertising.

I think I'm still going to dev O-, and E- now too, but im not going to release either of them untill i can get that damned ad square out of there. Basicly O- was a modified skin that also changed the "Go Pro" ad, but i cant change any other ads because they are on the web, Ed2k and ON both write an html file called "5.html" that tells it to display a random banner ad based on the time. The only problem is it writes the html file every time you start the program, so theres no way of getting around it without blocking it in hosts, or removing it by hacking into it, sadly i know nothing about hacking programs so I would have to leave that up to someone else. Incase you are wondering, ResourceHacker doesnt work on it ;)

Not trying to discourage you ditto_n, please do clean as much as you want and don't let people discourage you. Keep in mind though that as long as this hack on the ratio is available it will be more appealing than anything you do that doesn't actually improve the downloads.

aqlo, the point to E/O- is its a compleatly legal hack, which is why im working on it, if ed2k ever finds away to run a check on the dlls, then people using it will be SOL, while people using E/O- will be fine. Like i said befor, im not going to release anything further untill its needed.

PS, im looking for the "Fixed" version of teh crack, aparently betamaster found a problem in the one that is posted on here, but i cant find the second version.
