New audio CD. Havn't seen one of those for a long time.
My computer was still at the logon screen. I put in the
cd and pressed play on the cdrom drive. After about 10
it started making a nasty noise instead of playing the music.

Logged in to windows. Took out CD and put it back in.
A box appeared
"To play this CD some components on your computer must be updated"
Arrigh! It's a "copy controlled" CD with a data track as well as
a music track, player.exe has autorun. Only work software and vital
updates that I'v tested are allowed on that machine, I don't
appricate unwanted exe's being sneak into my computer. Grrr.

I had to temporarily rip the cd to play it.

Why didn't I dsable autoinsert notification long ago?
Ah, in win2k you have to edit the registry to disable it.

yes, you can hold down the shift key and prevent the CD
being autorun but it would be very easy to forget just once
and hit ok without reading the dialog then you have DRM installed.

Anyone seen the results of installing one of these CD's?
I presume it installs a driver that prevents the CD being ripped.
