This is an open invitation to everyone to come chat on IRC.
Whether you need help with a p2p problem or just wanna talk about youe day, come do it in real time on IRC. (note: Its quite empty in the channel at the moment, but thats to be expected considering that it is less than a day old - it will get busier as more people join in and participate!)

If you are familiar with IRC, join here right away:irc.dal.net
#zeropaidIf you have no idea what IRC is, here's a nice little walkthrough to get you started. Go and download mIRC 6.01 (http://www.mirc.com) from download.com (http://download.com.com/3000-2150-8875289.html?tag=lst-0-1) (1.11 MB)
Run the installer and install it into the directory of your choice (preferably a directory without a space; ie: C:\Programs\mIRC instead of C:\Program Files\mIRC)
Run the program. A nice little window called "mIRC Options" should pop up. This is where you're going to be doing all of the configuration.
Make sure the box next to "IRC Network:" says 'All' and then choose "Randon US DALnet Server" from the box below. It should be the first choice.
Put whatever you want in "Full Name:" and put a fake e-mail in for "Email Address.
Type in whatever you want your nick to be in the "Nickname:" box. (It makes things a lot easier if you use the same nick that you have on the board, but its up to you what you want.) Under "Alternative:" put your second choice for a nickname in case your first choice is already taken.
Make sure "Invisible Mode" is checked and click OK. Then find the little yellow lightning bolt (left-most icon in the top toolbar) and click it. It should start connecting you to DALnet.
After you connect (you should see the server's Message of the Day displayed) type "/join #zeropaid" (without quotes, of course) in the input field of the main window and press Enter.
Ta-da! You're now on the channel. Feel free to talk it up.
A couple helpful links if want more information on IRC:
mIRC Homepage (http://www.mirc.com)
IRC Help Site (http://www.irchelp.org)

If you have any questions/comments/problems dont be afraid to post them here, ask them in the channel, or send a PM my way. Also, look for a more advanced walkthrough on registering nicks and such in a couple days as well as some information on alternative clients.

The neat thing about this being an IRC chat room is that it can e accessed through Gnucleus, (by the way port 6667 works the best for me).

Just add: irc.dal.net:7000,6667 to your Gnucleus chat config and you're wired.

They;re are other ports too but I only remember these two.

do people want this? We could set up a local irc server on the zeropaid servers and chat through a java interface on the site. Anyone interested?

Its a slow sunday afternoon here, and instead of doing actual work, I'd figured i'd set up a java applet for the channel....
Link: (http://bookmarked.l33t.ca/jIRC/chat1.html) http://bookmarked.l33t.ca/jIRC/chat1.htmlIf you are still gonna set up a local one, and need any help, just let me know.

of course, we what it all... Posting on these boards is sometimes like passing notes in school. If you guys really think that we should communicate with each other then a chanel is the way to go.

No mods in chat, no one ever goes there, turning into spam thread, and dal.net doesn't work very well currently.

Try this network, P2PChat! irc.p2pchat.org port 6667 (or irc2.p2pchat.org port 6667) . There is already a #xolox, #blubster, soon to be a #shareaza i think, and a bunch of other fun channels (ie #alternative, #cafe, #musiccity). Here is the java if you just want to stop by, sometimes it's a little slow, but its never dead.

http://www.p2pchat.org/chat.htm <- Java
http://www.p2pchat.org/ <- Home page
http://www.p2pchat.org/downloads/p2pextreme.exe <- P2PChat version of the popular mIRC script eXtreme.

Stop by and check it out! When you connect then just type /list and press enter to see all of the channel choices.

From what I've read mirc is a 30-day trial $20 registration fee prog. This according to the mirc website and cnet. True or false ?

Just my $0.02

I used to host the chatroom for my site on DALnet, but lately I've found it a real b*tch to connect. All the servers I try never seem to work.

I've since moved my chatroom to irc.centralchat.net

It's free, never busy, and they have a java applet you can use to have your web visitors access the IRC room.

The nice thing about their java applet is the user doesn't have to give signed permission.

http://www.centralchat.net/chatrooms/_chat.htm

The HTML code they give you for the Java chat comes with a banner graphic, which is easy enough to get rid of.

The full implementation looks like this, if anyone wants to try it out:
