Daimler-Chrysler is a big player I'd say...

Anywho, I wouldn't choose Dodge/Chrysler.

But I haven't driven enough to be able to make a good judgement.

From my experience, between Ford and Chevy, I've had better luck with Chevy. Besides, they rust beautifully (yay for winter).

GM rapes any ford around. I've had chevy's and a ford, and I'd take the chevy over it any day. Drop in a 350 in any GM car, and it'll rape the pants off your Mustang 5.0.

FORD RULES I have personaly owned a 82 F-150 with 500,000 miles a 90 ranger with 400,000 miles(still going strong)and I'm currently approaching 90,000 in my 99 ranger

Half a million miles on a 82 F-150? HAHA Right, So, how many times has it caught fire in the last two decades?; Or had to have its engine rebuilt?

Half a million miles on ANY vehicle without having a complete engine overhaul is nearly impossible, unless it was driven for great distances at a time strictly on the highway/freeway.

I am a Chevy guy myself, and currently drive a 03' 1500HD crewcab 4x4. I have had many Ford's in the past 15 years but have had electrical or transmission problems with all of them between 75,000 to 100,000 miles.
Dodge's still have a problem with the rear main seal on the 318 engine. I know 3 ppl that have had their trannys go on their dodge trucks before 20,000 miles. As for imports, very dependable but too small for anyone over 6 foot tall like myself.

I prefer Chevy/GMC, but as long as the car is American I approve. Good ole American steel will beat Japanese plastic and fiberglass anyday.

A couple months ago some moron in his little Civic rear-ended my Jimmy at a stoplight. All it did to me was set off my airbag and screw up my bumper and trailer hitch. His entire front end was ruined and his car had to be towed out of the street. American know how baby!

dont bet on it sonny. i got a ranger here with almost 300 thou kilometers on it, and it uses no oil. also its my main hunting vehicle, so it does go off road. The other truck is my toy, a 81 F 100 with a 84 302 in it. slightly modded i might add. i have worked on most vehicles, and they all have good and bad points. small block fords have a breathing problem, easily solved by modding the heads for larger exhaust valves.

Its too bad that GM thinks that nobody needs a 4 cyl truck anymore. At it appears to the best of my knowlrdge that they are going to a bigger version to compete with the dodge dakota. Those S10s, and S15s with the 4 cyl were great little trucks. To put a starter on the v6 you dam near had to pull the engine.

Not so, as we have factorys in Canada for rice burners. another thought is that as the quality of the domestics is improving, the same cannot be said of the so called imports. VW has gone way down hill, and if you check the good old sunbird/sunfire is very reliable.

I have friends with Chevys who's paintjobs come off in the winter when theres sleet/ice, after about a year from purchase date.

From the 3 cars my family has:

Ford Taurus '92: 100,000 miles, just rolled over, works just as good as it did when we bought it, just slightly out of style.

Honda CRV '98: Bad accelleration speed thanks to the V4, but great car overall. 50,000 miles and runnin' well.

Honda Pilot '03: My vote for best SUV of the year, along with several magazines. Honda did well for their first real SUV

No kidding! I had a '70 Dart bracket racer that I sold a few weeks ago. Once saw a 440 Dart where only 3 wheels touched the ground standing still (ex-racer).

The '66 is 100% original, but I'm going to remove the drivetrain for preservation's sake and install a 496" stroker. Still gonna leave the "383 Four-Barrel" emblems on the fenders, though. Not like most Chevy guys can tell a 383 from a 440 by looking at it.

Oh hell, if that happened here, there would be a LOT of pissed off people. Sleet/ice/rain/snow/blizzards/excess salt on the roads... all things that test your car and if it can't survive, then you know you need to find one that can.

A lot of the cars now-a-days are coming with foriegn motors...so maybe some of the statement is true....

3. Nissan (gotta love R34's)
What about the earlier Skylines that put Nissan on the map for making performance cars? Or any of the other cars Nissan produced? OLDER Skylines, Cefiro, 180, Silvia, Laurel?

6.Honda
*shudder* Im not even going to comment on that one...

VW all the way. Vintage bugs are awsome.

How old? would it have to look original or could it be restored? i didnt care what my 59 looked like, just put a 4 inch body lift and a 3 inch suspension lift....anyway, need to get off the subject of cars...

Really? Which ones? I'm just wondering because my cousin builds motors for GMC/Chevy and he'd be pretty upset to find out that he's been getting teleported outside the country everyday at work.

Besides would you really want to buy and soup up a rice burner just to have it get beaten by a stock Cobra (or even an SS). And I shouldn't even have to mention the new GT40.

i know of a couple, the ford escort and the smaller cars produced by ford, were, or are, coming with Mazda motors...chrysler is, or at least was, coming with Mitsubishi motors...or was it dodge...anywho, im not saying that the motors were built in another country or anything, they were built here, but have the foriegn stamp on the block...i probably contradicted myself there...oh well...

Okay. I must say something here. Either you messed up what you meant, or you don't know squat about your car. I'm assuming it's the first one, but you never know with people. Every engine in some way needs oil. Two stroke one cylinders use oil, just like a four stroke V8, and a deisel V10. They all need oil to lubricate their bearings so that nothing seizes up instantaniously.

Also, my vote: Chevy.

Pro-American Cars, Anti-Ford, but I will drive a Ford before a ricer. Although I would drive an old VW, as those things never quit, at least as long as the driver cared about it.

Muscle cars of the 60's and 70's should not even be compared to the cars of today. :mellow
They had so much character, power and simplicity. Not to mention the ease of repairing them compared to todays vehicles.
Here are some of my favorites
1969 Hemi Charger 426
1970 Chevelle 454 SS
1967 Charger 383
1966 Olds 442
1965 Ford Mustang fastback
1974 Dodge Valiant with open headers(my old high school buds car) It was louder than hell. Only got a few tickets for the noise. Had way more for speeding.lol

I saw a bumper sticker on a chevy truck that said, "Id rather push a chevy then drive a ford."

Remember a few years back.. FORD made a car called. ASPIRE.. it looked so awful, its a car you buy for your young daughter that had the name of the car highlighted, as well as a purple paint job on a two door hatchback coop.. that has 80 horsepower engine.

My dad had a 89 or 90 ford ranger XLT extend cab pickup.. He delivered all through LA, owned his own currior service. Changed the oil every 3000 miles. Tires, and ect.. HE had a new transmission rebuilt in 1995, with 160,000 miles. IT lasted to 220,000 miles til he sold it.

Like your car can break the sound barrier. My shop teachers '72 Chevy gets 10 seconds in the drags, so don't make it sound like only Ford can do it. Personally I would have to prefer the Chevy over the Ford. I am not saying that Ford does not make a decent vehicle, If I had the money I would go buy a brand new Excursion, I figure if u can own own one of the biggest SUV's on the road, why the hell not? But the main two beefs I have with Ford is that you have to have special tools to work on them and that after a year you start having little small things break or go out on you, LOL.

Nissan all the way! The 240SX is a great machine. But I still want a Acura NSX.

Ford blows, thier cars are probably glued together (I have respect for thier trucks, they are built pretty solid :))

Chevs are decent cars. My friend has a 95 cavalier, he got it 2 years ago and it has given him no problems yet.

Kevin - Keep in mind thats a V10 TRUCK engine, there is a major difference between Car V10's and Truck V10's. Truck engines are meant for heavy pulling, not for top end preformance like a Mustang cobra.

When i get my NSX type R (Just gotta win the lottery lol), ill spank you both, while saving $$ on gas (450 HP with 42 miles per gallon gas mileage)

To tell the truth in my expirence Rack N' Rail it has not been from 1 state alone it has been from many states that I even drove through or lived in.

Sure there are older cars from every manufactuer but ... Ford Linchon Mercury are not the most commone cars I see that are still around... My own favorite little tough vehicle is my 86 Ranger, as it always starts in cold weather, is great in snow, is good on gas, and has been very reliable. We also have the wifes 81 F100 street rod, that has to go, as it is going to hell from laying around. It is a tough climate on vehicles, and the wifes truck has a few blisters on it, but it has never been painted. The ranger is soon due for its first paint job, but Im not too fussy with it as its a daily driver, and serves as our huntinf/fishing vehicle. Its a 2 wheel drive, with 4 wheel drive springs under it, and has been changed from 14 to 15 inch wheels. The 4 cylinder engine, now has a 2 barrel carb off a 302 on it, as well as a few internal goodies. The F100 has what used to be a 320, poked out 40,000 over, and a couple of minor other internal tinkerings, including a stump puller cam designed for a 351. That one you dont use the factory firing order on, and is not timed with a light, but it has to be timed by ear.

Just got a 91 Ford Exploder 4X4 for 2000 canuck $'s. Man, this thing rocks for the price. It goes like stink and sucks gas to prove it, but it doesn't have a speck of rust. High milage, but for that price, I'm not complaining. It has been well maintained and has all new BF Goodrich rubber and an mp3 player to boot. I think I can make a few bucks on this one.

There, my vote for Chevy just bumped it to a tie.

I've always been a Chevy fan, party due to my dad's liking of them, and disliking of Ford's. He always used to bitch about having to fix Fords (he's a car enthusiast and know -it-al) and he'd always say they have the most stupid way of arranging things under the hood. I never cared, until I found out myself, at which point I started to agree with him.

I'd take a Ford. DEFINITELY not a Jeep..I have the Grand Cherokee right now and could shoot myself for buying it. I've also heard though that the Chevy Trailblazer is good too. My one friend has had nothing but Ford F150's for his last three vehicles and put over 150,000 miles on each with no problems with any of them. (lots of travel with work)

I like the new nissan maximas.. Ill never buy a ford or chevy product... For one reason only, resale value is a bitch.. I went to ford dealer to trade my 2002 ford explorer in for another vehical.. This was in 2004.. They offered 7000 which retail around 16-18-21thousand depending on equpment at the time.

From what I have been seeing I will never buy another new vehicle. In the first 2 to 3 years you are just getting your ass kicked with depreciation. A low mileage buyback is what I consider my best bet. A lot of older folks trade every 3 years, and many of these vehicles have very low milage.

Hey!
Ford Ford Ford! I work there! (I'm an engineer at the chicago plant, where we build the brand new ford 500, ford freestyle, and mercury montego)

I love our trucks, I dont think anything can beat a ford truck...The SVT Lightning is the only badass sports truck around with 500 Ft Lbs of torque...I love my Ford Ranger Edge Truck too...To bad our cars are kinda boring I admit, but GM's cars arent any better. If your going to buy a car, get a MAZDA, they are owned by ford....I have a brand new MAZDA RX8, its so badass..the engine is only a 1.3 litre, and It has NO PISTONS....(its a rotary engine)...Im getting my turbocharger soon and my greddy manifold back exhaust soon....

2 rangers, a F100, and a VW jetta sitting in this yard. Every ranger we ever had gave fantastic service. The F100 was the wifes toy, but now that she has her mint 84 ranger on the road, I have finally inhereted the F100 I built for her. Im hoping to have it on the road in a few days. 300+ hp in a sleeper truck.

If you are an engineer you need to tell those bastards at Ford to bring the TBird back...not the bastardized one either. I'm talking making the chassis the MN12 style with the SVT 32-valve Supercharged V-8...you should know...the one that went into the "beloved" Mustang after the Tbird tested the motor. I get so pissed off when I think about what the Tbird could've been. Eh...I'm done venting...

See what you can do for me.

Nah man, I'm trying to transfer to Mazda in japan to help them build a new rotary engine for the RX-9 (not out yet) I'm not into the old thunderbirds, even know the old supercoupe was pretty cool.

The Dodge SRT-10 puts the weak Lightning to shame.

May 12th, 2005, 10:40 PM
ya what do you expect, it's running on an engine that was not designed for a pick up...watch the SRT-10 fade away in the background as most Chrysler products do...that's why they got bought out right.

And just for the record MacGyver..Ford only owns a large share in the Mazda company, around 30% or so....they don't own the entire company. Though the assumption is not uncommon as they are sharing some chasis and engines with eachother. Probe and MX-6??
I'm currently leasing a 2004 Mazda 6 that does have a Ford V-6 engine and it's chasis is going to be used in the upcoming Fusion and Zepher vehicles. I've got to say it's a great car. Fit and finish is excellent, and its handling is good. The engine is a bit noisy when idling although it has a great startoff. An excellent car to have...

Quickie p-222 I use every day and only problems with it are that you get wet when it rain, you freeze your but off in the winter. Great side is that it uses 0L of gas, I can drive it in any building, and I alway have a place to sit down when I am in a line.
