Well, looks like Valve couldnt keep to the Seph 30th release date... so it looks like both Doom 3 and Half Life 2 are to be released in 2004 at pretty much the same time, so which game would you rather get?

I don't think it was "they couldn't make the date", I think it was the fact that their source code was stolen and they needed to add more security to the online play.

I can't wait for either of them...although I know that they won't run on my computer well. My Ti4200 with all its overclocking glory won't be able to keep up.

Unreal tournament 2004 should be a good game, and it will run on my computer.

HL2 without any doubt.

I mean comeon look at the gaming possibilities with the realistic gravity and the way you can interact with your environment.

Besides look how long the regular half-life has been largely popular, about 5 years maybe?

And lets not forget the AI that can kick your ass in the game, its like no AI ever before.

Yea, definitly Half-Life 2. I mean, you get a story and physics. In Doom 3, you might get good looks and scared, but that's not always what I'm after.

I tried the Doom 3 Demo, and let me tell you that game scared the bejesus out of me. I am not normally a freaked out person, and in fifteen years of playing games, I don't think I've ever come across a game with more atmosphere. I was looking around cormers at night and I put the Bible under my bed beside my baseball bat. I'm sticking with HL2.

Doom3 all the way. It's part of a gaming legacy, i recently grabbed a video for it from suprnova and it looks amazing. IMO this is a game to watch out for.

I have a bad feeling that HL2 is going to be a disappointment, i think it's got too much to live up to and i'm sure steam isn't going to help it either.

PS: Boo to steam

I dunno...if my computer gets it butt in gear (translation: upgrades), then i'll definitely be getting both. What better way to relax after HL2 by getting some sick scary eye candy on??

if i could run them, id get em both. but i am currently using a 766mhz celeron with a geforce 4 mx 440 PCI card. bah. i downloaded the e3 demo when it was leaked, and i got a wopping 4 (yes, FOUR) frames per second. granted it was an alpha, it was still pretty obvious that my pc would have problems with it.

I usually just leech off my friends for pc uprades :]

The monitor (flatscreen)

The 1 gig of ram

The neon lights

The case

The cd drives.

The hard drives 70/40 gig.

The rest of the stuff I payed for but it really helps knowing generous people.

You might want to invest in a 40 dollar graphics card, you can get pretty good ones at (pricewatch.com) check it out all wholesale.

Anyway Im going to watch the HL2 demo again, bye.

The thing that impressed me the most about the graphics on MP2 wasn't the overall glamour of it (although it did look pretty damn awesome), it was how easily my computer ran it. The graphics IMO were better than UT2K3, yet MP2 ran so much faster, ran more smoothly, and just seemed to be an efficient game.

Its not however the best I've seen. I had the chance to build a "dream computer" for a friend with $2000 budget, plus 19" monitor and a legit copy of XP. We put the 5900 Ultra 256 meg in....3.0 ghz cpu, gig of ram, etc. When we ran halo...........HOLY SHIT. It looked awesome! That is however a DX9 game with a DX9 video card.

If your card can handle the extra load, turning anti aliasing and antriscopic filtering on in the windows control panel can really make a huge difference in graphical quality. It can really slow things down fast though, so try different settings to find a medium that works for you. Sometimes a lower screen res with higher anti aliasing can look better than a higher screen res with no anti aliasing.

Half-Life 2 can run on a 733MHz pentium 3, Doom 3's minimum is Pentium 4 1.2GHz so u will need a mad comp to run it... so Half Life 2 is better for the older computer

Definetly halflife 2.I would prefer halo 2 over both of them

Half life 2 minimum requirements:
1.2 GHz CPU
256MB RAM
3.5GB hard drive space
DirectX 7 capable 3D card
Internet connection

Right...........Half life 2 on 733MHz. IMAO.

Half Life 2, although doom 3 is a excellent game too.

I played Doom 3 and it wasn't that good.

The graphics looked great -- if you see them. The majority of the game takes place in almost pitch black corridors so you can't see the fine detail of the game.

The gameplay also uses a few cheap tactics. You see that armour item in the room? Don't pick it up because a demon is going pop up and get you. You walk a few meters down the hall - BAM a demon transports behind you.

If you like haunted houses with ghost popping up around the corner then you might like Doom 3.

Personally I find the gameplay too repetitive.

I think in some ways doom3 was designed more to show off the engine. It really imerses you in the game if done right.

Google around for a game coming soon called Prey. The video I saw of it is....wow. It looks like its going to bring innovation to the FPS category, looks awesome, and overall I think will really mess with your head.

Thats what people say about I.D

They dont make games anymore, they make graphics engine demos.

I like doom 3 a lot. I don't know why but I think I am enjoying it much more than I enjoyed HL2. Strange

Prey looks too much like doom 3. Prey, from the look of the video, looks too linear. I don't know how it can bring innovation just by adding better graphics.

Why, you ask?

1.)Doom 3 has a huge fan base. it was out LONG before half life was even thought of, both doom, doom 2, doom 95, and tnt and plutonia (and ultimate doom)
2.)Doom was revolutionary for its time. It probably sold the most (i didn't look up, but if I did it would've) in its genre at its time. They even made shirts and apparel for it (back in the day, and now)
3.)I know most of you are just in to the little kiddy bright colors and all, doom 3 does look more realer to me. Its just that the things in doom is very unlikely to happen, or at least not not but until most of the world goes to hell. Half life isn't as in depth i think.
4.)The graphics alone in doom 3 are amazing, if you find a developers code to brighten it up, for all of you that seem afraid of the dark, you'd see how real it was. You said its repetitive, but killing any monster/person (even in half life) more than once is repetitive. Its not really the game, but the evil 'devil' dude whos sending them after you behind you (as someone said its repetitive)
5.)Doom 3 has a good bit of add-ons, but good ones like Ressurection of Evil.
6.)Id software can probably buy out valve :P
7.)Half life itself is a new development as seen below.

i'm sure that half life has its good sides, but no not really :P lol (and yes im dloading it)

now if your just afraid of the dark, because you might wet your pants (as a many of u dont like the darkness seems) then you're probably not of age, or just a 'soft' person.
Doom is like a interactive horror movie, like the scenes when they show monsters or things, and then they take you back to your man. Half life to me looks just like the rest of the fps, all bright, kill something, and beat it . You cant miss the monster b/c its all bright, and in the open and if you ever die you sux ;) :hi

and no im not coming back here b/c all these forums want u to join, and that sux already
