Ok heres the deal, i have been getting sick of this not being able to talk to friends who have moved not to far away and are now long distance....most of the time i cant IM them cuz one of my fam members are on the PC. SOLUTION get my own pc....but i am way short on cash for that so i head up ebay to find an old IBM pc 330 and now because i dont want to have to use a 2nd monitor in my room (compared to my tv) i am looking for cheap pci cards and i was wondering if anybody has some good tips tricks or anything.... dont harass me about loss in quality by using cheaper cards, basically i just need it to look good enough to see winamp 2 to play some mp3s off of our whole fam pc and to see the IMs and ocassional webpage....nothing special :) Or a website for a good cheap monitor would work...i just dont figure a monitor would be the cheaper route...... (oh yea the 330 doesnt have an AGP slot and is a 100mhz processor speed)

TVs have appauling resolution. It's oftern difficult to work out the file names when trying to play films on the house TV from a laptop. Therefore it may be difficult to read IM messages or your winamp playlist.

gah! 100mhz? if you paid more than $10 for that you got ripped off. that thing is an antique! well first things first: can that 100MHZ box even run the apps you want? i think you'll have a hell of a time playing mp3's with it. i think you could get by IMing and browsing though. anyways, you can get some really cheap geforce 2's with tv out. for example this one http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=2763021270&category=27388 is going for all of $16 and is probably faster than your CPU.

My TNT2 has a tv out, 32 meg of ram, I think you can find them online for 20-30 bucks.

One thing, how big is the TV? Even on my 25" its very hard to read text. My tnt was fuzzy enough that even at the lowest screen res, you had to read text by knowing what was there ahead of time. My geforce 4 on the other hand has clear enought text that I can read the icons on my desktop.

I bought my 19" monitor for $150, I expected to find a 15" online for you for much less than a hundred, I only found one at newegg. ( http://www.newegg.com/app/ViewProduct.asp?DEPA=1&submit=property&catalog=19&mfrcode=0&propertycodevalue=3789&keywords=&minprice=&maxprice=&description=%20&order=Description )

I would check your local computer store, not best buy, but if possible a small mom/pop repair shop, or maybe a pawn shop. I've seen used monitors for around 45 bucks, which is cheaper than buying a tv out card and cables. Plus it works a whole lot better.

Hey man i remember the day when all i had was one of those beasts....infact i remember the whole 3yrs of it.....but i am a broke ass 16yr old who just wants to chat with his lady-friend when he feels lol so right now i take what i can get.....i was looking at webtv but it seems that they havent realized that their would probably be good money in selling a version that could be used on broadband.....

And to the other dude i guess i will just have to try it and find out...if it doesnt work i will have to find myself a monitor for cheap and a possible solution for that might be what i call the "old fart" font setting where it makes everything huge lol

Here's a thought, you know how to use Ebay, why not look for a monitor there...
