I tried I-tunes, and it seems you cant download songs in mp3 format. They are all in some proprietary m4p format. Sure I could convert them to stick them on my mp3 player, but thats too much work.

When are they going to come out with a no hassel, no drm, mp3 format paid service. That I might actually use!

well being that Steve Jobs admitted that your 99¢ per song was going straight to the RIAA instead of a portion to the artists, i say ......iTunes is out!!

lol.. Their all going to the RIAA.. one cent, or all 99 cents. Just dont support them. They support terrorist. When they sue or have a lawsuit going against people who buy their music, their creating terror.

if i had to choose, it would be napster
itunes is new with windows, so it can maybe have some problems, but napster was built for windows.

I'd have to say Itunes, i'm not a real big fan of it BUT i've always liked apples grey clean interface.

and you think napster is that much better?

itms... it actually has a real reputation as a music store, look at napster. when somebody asked the leader of napster2 about itunes selling 5x more songs than it did in one week, he said something like "wait until the word gets out that napster is back".

he's using a name that EVERYONE knows died years ago, in hopes to 'steal' users away from the competition.

remember buymusic.com? the ones that copycatted apple's commercials? how well are they doing now? i never heard any news about them or how many songs they released after they opened...

buymusic.com? ROFL. They disappeared from the public spotlight in a heartbeat.

Given the choice between Napster 2.0 and iTunes, I'd have to choose neither.

They both fuel the RIAA and I want no part of that fire.

Well a completely legal one with no relation to the RIAA is magnatune.com . Support Garage bands!

I use BuyMusic.com - the iTunes music player sucks, and I haven't tried Napster 2.0 yet - so, I'll just stick with BuyMusic.com for the time being...

I would have to now say I-tunes over Napster, although both are paid services, to me napster has taken a bigger downhill turn for the worse by coming back. They would have been better off just to stay as a dead legend of p2p it would look a lot better. So Itunes it is.

I think the attitude of many that all paid services are the devil is totally ridiculous. The music world is taking notice - if we used a legitimate way of downloading, the chances are that they would see the community as willing to compromise. In the long term we might actually make some changes rather than more and more people being sued.

The fact remains that mainstream music will never be free, whether you like it or not - artists and labels do need to be paid. However, surely by compromising now we can avoid yet more unnecessary lawsuits and hope to make changes that will be beneficial to all in the long-term.

Being an Apple-lover who's primarily used PCs all my life, I love iTunes for Windows. I know that when it eventually becomes available in the UK, I'll definitely be using it.
