In my opinion the greatest band or musician ever is Tool. Nirvana comes in a close second but Tool is just the greatest f#@king band.

I've been hooked on Queen's music since 1973, ever since the first time I heard "Keep Yourself Alive".
I was only 11 years old, now i'm 41 and still hooked, just wish Freddie hadn't left us so soon.

That's about how it went for me too. Except I was about 16 at the time. Freddies untimely death was tragic. The man was arguably the best singer/composer/pianist of all-time!!

Every one of them is a great band except for Slipknot. I have no respect for them because they are a bunch of fucking sellouts.

Out of all the bands/artists mentioned here, I am a huge Zappa fan. I would love to mention a few of my other favorites, but you folks probably never heard of them. Jazz greats like Barney Kessel, Herb Ellis or great fingerpickers like Chet Atkins or John Renbourn are well known names though.
Now the blues is another great story...
Was Muddy Waters the Godfather of Rock N' Roll? You betcha and Chuck Berry was his disciple ... The Blues Had a Baby and They Called It Rock N' Roll
by McKinley Morganfield a.k.a. Muddy Waters

A few other names to throw in ....
Jerry Garcia & the Grateful Dead
Eric Clapton
Jimi Hendrix
BB King
Johnny Lee Hooker
And as far as finger-pickin goes let us not forget Doug Dillard

True, true and also, Stefan Grossman, another great finger picker.
And as far as Hendrix is concerned, he was in a league of his own. That's IMHO though.

On the radio at night they play a Blitzgriek of metallica.. FOr two hours straight. From their first album, to their blackest album.

Madonna, hahah I look like such a loser but she is my favorite musicien.
Why? Because look at everything she has done, it is profond what she did, she showed girls it was okay to take control of their sexuality while telling men, "no no no" She took sex out of the closet it was in and said "listen, it's a part of life, it showed be talked about." She was the first REAL female musician to escalate to never before seen status, she tore down the glass cieling at a time where the music industry was predominately male orientated. She has sold well over 160 million records, she has been around for 20 years, and STILL has the world's attention at the drop of a pin, she is the mother of reinvention, having gone through several different looks. She is byfar the smartest business woman in the world, as she always has new ideas on how to generate publicity for her products as well as ideas on what to sell, and when to sell it.
But thats musicien, for band it's hands down no brainer of Coldplay followed by Dave Matthews Band, White Stripes, U2, Dixie Chicks, Beatles, Evanescence, Crush, BNL and The Be Good Tanya's.

Disturbed is my favorite band. I think a lot of bands have really good songs, but many of these bands use filler tracks to get a CD out quick. I don't feel that any of Disturbed's songs are filler tracks.

in my view the best, most technically proficient rock guitarist ever, and, according to the stats, one of the most outstanding writers/arrangers/musicians of the 20th century.

That would be fine if I were trying to run a business. But I prefer music that is made by musicians, not businessmen!!

hi rainbowdemon- certainly brian may is right up there- no one i know from babyboomersville with a few good joints in them can withstand the opening riff from " keep yourself alive " and i have often grovelled on the floor to the strains of " now i`m here" from sheer heart attack. his work with eddie van halen isn`t too shabby either. what i like about zappa`s guitar playing is that he edges ever so slightly towards jazz like another old rocker favourite of mine , jeff beck .
try " dirty mind " from " you had it coming " or " grease monkey " from " jeff ".
" IF THE VOICE DON`T SAY IT, THE GUITAR WILL PLAY IT "

Let me see:
