2.6 was good in a lot of ways, but i still think 3.x versions are better. I get much faster downloads on 3 and there has never been a file i didnt find. The interface takes a little getting used to, but once you get it out of your head that it doesnt have to have big, pretty buttons in order to be good, you'll love the interface.
Winmx has a little bit of a learning curve but its still a very good program. 3.22 probably isnt the best version so far, i liked the last few betas and 3.1 more.

I see lots of content on winmx and if you can get somebody to boost you up the Q, you're fine, but I tried to download a very popular file the other day on winmx 3.2 and I was queued at a minimum of 76 and a max of 147 from differrent users.
RIDICULOUS.

Once I tweeked the settings to make it run at it's best I've had no problems. The queueing is a major drag but I can live with it for now.

What are the settings you can tweak in WinMX?

Yes, everyone says,
"I tweak WinMX's settings and get maximum performance"
What did you tweak? Explain? Show me WinMX can work well and not stick me in queue for all eternity. And show me I can get downloads to even start or go into queue. I have a cable connection with no router or firewall. WTF! I've given WinMX its fair share of chances to prove itself. It has not.

You've got look in the right places. What do I mean? Check www.slyck.com 's guide to WinMX.
Here's basically what it says:
On the right side of the search results, it shows how many are available WITHOUT queueing, that you will be able to download from immediately. Look there, and then click Ping All Results. You want to download from the one with the most available for download and with the lowest ping.

The tweaking referred to generally implies such things as capping upload bandwidth, adjusting timeout settings, etc to improve performance. I hate the queues too, but that's life. And I can't find a better program.
My personal opinion is that WinMX presents the files one seeks in such a clumsy fashion that it takes me hours of foraging before I finally find all the files I want. I hate that in other filesharing programs too, which is one of the reasons I don't use them.
I also hate seeing the same file one user shares, on ten different servers, ten times over in the search result. In my opinion something certainly ought to be done about that. It's just annoying and skews the number of results found by the program after each search.
And I also detest the leeching.
But on the other hand, since I use WinMX to search for mp3's only, I have not seen a better program since either my watch stopped, or AG died.

This is what I had to do to get it to work right. 1st I use the secondary connection instead of the primary one. 2nd I went into internet connection settings and where it says "incoming TCP connections" I changed the number from 6699 to 16699 then I went to "in/out UDP packets" and changed that number from 6257 to 16257. 3rd I went to "bandwidth throttle and changed the "limit incoming bandwidth number" (the top one) from 15000 to 105000. This increased my download speed dramaticly. I have DSL. I don't know if that will work on a dial-up. You can also lower the bottom number in that box. (Slows the upload speed). Like someone said about the queueing you just got to look at the 2 right columns to see whats available or how long you will have to wait.

As far as the long queues go, I blame the average WinMX user for that and not the software version. I like version 3.22 and think it runs the best so far. The part that bothers me the most is the 20 seconds of freezing it does. I like the wsx feature of 3.22 better than 2.6. I recently discovered too that it works better with a clean install than an upgraded version.
I am reminded of all the raving that people do about Windows XP, because it's the newest toy, when in fact it sucks in many ways.

How long has it been since they've done any real improvements to this program?
