Redhat phasing out desktop support

Now that Redhat is phasing out desktop support and concentrates on the server market and SuSE is being acquired by Novell, which distribution will become the next one to dominate the Linux desktop market?

It does seem as if Novell/SuSE will be geared to the server market as well.

To me it looks like a heavy blow for the desktop use of Linux.
I don't feel that Redhat's Fedora will be a viable replacement either.

What do you think?

I think possibly Mandrake, they have added more products for home users. Suse will hopefully continue desktop products.

I hope SuSE will continue desktop support too, it's hard to tell so far. My main concern is for up-to-date drivers which are many times not found in non commercial versions.
I've tried Mandrake before but didn't like it very much that's why I'm bothered to see Redhat and possibly SuSE get out of the desktop market.

yea red hat was mostly made to be a part of a network, it was essentially a true workstation distro.

mandrake has always been a home/small office distro and has good multimedia support right from the install making it a good begginers distro.

although most people have praised the efforts of knoppix, i have tried it and its a very good distro and has plenty of apps right from the start, its also good to see it based on debian, ive always liked debian.

theres more than 2 or 3 versions of linux for the desktop though.

I belive Fedora will dominate only because it a red hat sponsored project. Mandrake... maybe.

Why wouldn't these companies continue to support desktop linux in one form or another (like Fedora)? I would think they they would want a desktop version to run on the cleints for the companies that have thier servers. There seems that would be worthwhile money wise, becuase it would be cheaper for companies to do that rather than winblows.

Knoppix was pretty nice when I tried it last. I don't have time to play with a full blown linux distro, but I didn't see anything wrong with knoppix.
