i have a problem. i had to reinstall windows the other day, and as a result, had to reinstall BSplayer to play my vids. so i reinstalled it along with the newest k-lite codec pack. so i go to play a video and it gives me "unknown file format". so i thought i didnt have the right codec installed, but just to be sure, i tried the same vid with Mplayer2. low and behold, it worked. however, i would prefer to use BSplayer because of all the great features it has. but the damned thing doesnt play my videos! any help???

What file extenstion are you trying to play. NOT the file name! e.g. FuddleDuddle.mpg
Then you need to configure the 3ivx filter by going to>Start>Programs>K-Lite Codec Pack>Configuration>3ivx
Once that is opened go to the "Direct Show Priority" TAB
Then at the bottom right, there should be 4 boxes with Divx3, Divx4, Divx5, and XviD.
Make sure they are ALL checked.
After you've done that, try re-opening the file with Windows Media Player OR try using VideoLan (http://www.videolan.org)
Hope that helps!

the file in question is an AVI, not exactly sure what format (divx, xvid, etc), but i can find out if need be.
i did as you suggested, but it didnt help any. im not sure if you really undertand what i want to do... i can already play the video using other apps, such as media player, but i want to play it with BSplayer. however, when i try to play it, bsplayer gives me the error. note that BSplayer is the only player (that ive tried_ that wont play the video. i know it can though, because before i reinstalled, it played everything i have.

try messing with the general settings where it says "don't load divx settings" and all that. Restart the player

i would suggest that you don't get a codec pack. just install whichever codec you need.

didnt notice that lol sorry...Bsplayer actually has it own set of codecs that it uses it has nothing to do with the codecs that WMP uses so that explais why that WMP can play it and BSplayer cant. So what you must do is get the seperate divx 3 codec and install it and then theoretically it shall work dont use no codec pack or nothing like that just the codec plainly. if problems still arise state it here and ill try to help to my fullest ability.
divx 3 codec (http://www.divx-digest.com/software/divxcodec.html)

There are a lot of files around that claim to be avi but are in fact wmv
or some other M$ as? format. Try opening it in Media Player. If you get a
message saying the file extension is wrong and do you want Media Player to try and play it anyway then click on 'Yes' . If it plays ok then it's one of those.

I had this problem once, but I can't remember what I did to fix it. I'm guessing I messed around with the settings or installed ffdshow or something else.
