MP3 Identification

Does anyone know if there's a service (or software) anywhere that can identify un-named MP3 Files?

I use MMJukebox and it's identified all the tracks on my PC, but I've got about 150 that don't have tags and I have no idea what they are (except for the fact that they sound good). I heard somewhere that there was a service that you could phone whilst listening to a track & it could identify it down the phone, and I was wondering whether that was available online if there was no software to do it?

I'm not sure about identifying individual MP3 tracks but I know that Tag&Rename (http://www.softpointer.com/tr.htm) does a great job of identifying whole albums and tagging them appropriately.

I use Quinntesential Player (www.quinnware.com) which has a CDDB tag identifier, that might be what you're looking for.

As for the telephone identification service you're talking about, it's called Shazam (www.shazam.com). If you're at a party somewhere and really need to know what a tune is, dial their number and hold your phone to the source of the music. It listens for 10 seconds and then hangs up. If it recognises the track, it will send you a text message within seconds giving you the details of the track.

I've tried it a few times on some really obscure tracks and 95% of the time it's hit the jackpot. I was amazed, though I believe the track has to have been released on CD for it to be in their database.

Another very useful and free tool is Clonespy (http://www.clonespy.de/english/). If you have a lot of music or any other files saved on your HD, you'll find this very helpful. It will search out duplicate files on your system; not just mp3's. So if you've downloaded lots of mp3's that are the same song, but mistagged, spyclone will search them out for you. I have saved a lot of space on my machine with this tool.

I have been using the Musicbrainz tagger to rename the songs that I rip and occasionally pre-view (indie only, of course... mainstream music is repulsive). http://musicbrainz.org/ This prog is free and you can import albums from the FreeDB to tag your songs with. You have to have some information to tag them though... so if you have none... it will be more difficult. You might be able to use MoodLogic, which you have to pay for, but you can preview/work-ware.

Use moodlogic. It costs money but I beleve it will do what you're asking. I tried to find a free version (different service, not an illegal version) but I have yet to find something worthwhile.
