thankyou to all that helped me yesterday it was much appreciated. But, I've still got a few problems. As I said yesterday, have a Dynalink RTA220 ADSL router/modem. I connected it to the ethernet port at the back of the router, and I put the other one into the LAN port. Followed the instructions in the manual, probably about 6 times, formatted 3 times, hoping that starting from scratch might help. But no go. CAN SOMEONE PLEASE HELP. Step by step instructions of what to do please. I do everything that it says in the manual, and when I launch the browser and type in the routers default IP address to bring up the routers console window, nothing happens. And that's as far as I've got. I've had to put in my 56k modem to come and ask you guys, as I'm totally stuck. Thanks again in advance for any help and advice you can offer.

I'm assuming that you have your machine on dchp and the router is set by default to automatially assign IP addresses.
Try to "hard Reset" or just a regular reset on the router or see if you can find an update for your router. I tried to find a update for you but the website is in like german, but even on the product page, I couldn't find one.
