I liked the original game enough to check out the sequal..Just Started playing this game..I was wondering what you all thought about the new game pluses and minuses?...is it me or do you think that this game should have been an expansion pack to the original since so many things that are the same in them..Speak you're mind ;)

I have yet to try it...I'm hoping to aquire it later tonight or tomorrow.

The graphics didn't look too much better than the first one, but I heard one of the major changes is facial expressions. They're not all frowning to make the faces look scary. The originals graphics were pretty impressive, so I'm not complaining.

I think I saw a new gun with a scope...very cool.

The biggest thing besides bullet time that the original had, was a great plot and storyline. The comic book style cutscenes were a nice artistic touch and really different from past games.

Can't wait to try it...I'm almost done with SOF2, I need a new single player game.

Btw, hows it run (give system specs if possible). My Ti4200 has been great to me in the past, but I don't know if I can crank it all the way up with this game...even with overclocking.

There is the new Havok Physics engine implemented on everything here in the game.

The graphics are more detailed and higher resolution textures than the previous Max Payne.

Bullettime 2.0 has been implemented as well. The more enemies you shoot, the faster you will beable to move around and it boosts your bullettime even more.

Lots of gameplay here. Instead of running around shooting everything, you can get people to team up with you and you can protect some people as well.

I have the game right infront of me but cant play it cause I have a Nvidia Ti4200, which is not direct 9x hardware :( . Oh well, I'll have to wait a few weeks to get my new card.

I know how you feel Dswissmiss, it seems like just the other day that this computer was the fastest money could buy with all the bells and whistles. I probably couldn't sell it for scrap now.
I'm stuck in one of those never ending waits for prices to stop falling now.

im actually looking to sell it for around 70, and found a ati 9600pro oem for 150...so it doesnt look to bad, but yeah, gaming rigs get really expensive with all the constant upgrading.

I played the game last night and it's absolutely amazing. Everything from the
music, to the gameplay to the graphics has gotten better. I specially like the
dark story and tone of the MP2.

Might just be the best single player game of the year. :)

NB. Interesting how old Max has gotten, yet his voice hasn't changed at all...

You HAVE to have a DX9 card? Not according to the minimum system reqs on their webpage. Minimum is a 32meg AGP card. I've never seen a DX9 card with less than 64meg

When I start the game, I get a message: Max Payne 2 requires a Microsoft Direct 9x compatible display adapter. Maybe it would work with some software emulation.

this is from the site:
MINIMUM
1Ghz Pentium III/Athlon or 1.2Ghz Celeron or Duron processor
32MB DirectX 9 compatible AGP graphics card with hardware transform & lighting support.
256MB RAM

RECOMMENDED
1.4Ghz Athlon or 1.7 Ghz Pentium 4, Celeron or Duron processor
64MB DirectX 9 compatible AGP graphics card with hardware transform & lighting support
512MB RAM

Did you update the drivers? You should be able to play it just fine without having to buy a new video card which is foolish to do if you have a geforce 4 ti.

what I thought was really kool was that the pc got exclusive release of the game beofre any other console(3 months or so)...makes me happy usually PC gets games last at bat..any idea why PC got it first???

in anycase game rox I am in the 4th chapter in the PART 1 it only keeps getting better...the story line is kool too a dark grim approach way to go about it but very sucesfull!

:error on a wierder note for all of you guys out there about DX9 and all I dont even have DX9 installed but my card supports it..wierdly enough it works sooo sweet no problems running the game maybe it doesnt require DX9...just some specualtion regarding that...

my specs:
P4 1600 MHZ
Nvidia mx 460
Dx8
1024 DDR 2700 RAM
and so on...

Would it run on an Athlon 1.24ghz, 512 Ram, ATI 9000 (w/ latest drivers?) I know I exceed the min. specs, but I don't think DirectX9 was made for the 9000. Or does it matter since my card supports hardware transform & lighting?

Hmmm... ?

My desktop is starting to look very old...

1.3 GHz Pentium 4
512 Mb RDRAM

Can't believe that when I bought it I paid $2,100 for it.

NOTE: In it's defense, it's almost 3 years old.

Sephiroth, do you mean the Nvidia drivers? I have the latest one and downloaded direct 9x...could this be why? It says on the microsoft website that direct x cannot be uninstalled though.

Sephiroth
October 17th, 2003, 08:04 PM
Then it should be direct 9 compatible. Id check the read me or get any updates and see if that fixes it. Because its either a game bug or a configuration problem with your video card.

p3 450 mhz, 16 meg voodoo banshee with 512 ram
Uh, no. If it would even start the game, it wouldn't be worth playing. Even on the lowest settings you'd get 1fps or so (kinda like the doom3 alpha for most people)

Origin, I think you're confused by software support of DX9, and hardware support of DX9. The Nvidia MX460 is a DX8 card. The only nvidia cards with hardware DX9 support are the Fx series. Why don't you install DX9? No, it can't be uninstalled, but why would you want to? I think the game would run much better if you updated to the latest version of dirrectx, then updated your display drivers.

Results may vary I will say this it runs sweet if I have any problems with it I most definitly update to Dx9 but if not why upgrade? "Why fix something when its not broken?" thanks for youre input though most appreciated phalkon30!

We seem to be forgetting the real point of this Thread did we like the GAME? :;)

You don't need a Direct X 9 card to play Max Payne 2. I was able to run it on my ATI Radeon 9000 which is a Direct X 8.1 card.

I also would like to point out that Max Payne 2 ran kinda decently on the highest detail settings on my machine, and my machine is as follows.

Pretty good game. It's just that many games is trying to copy the bullet time effect. Example: Dead to Rights or True Crime: streets of l.a.

The game kicks some serious ass! I got a loan of the first one of my mates and I was blown away. Then my new computer came along with directx9 and nvidia and I decided to "acquire" max payne 2 and two words came to mind.... fucking amazing! The graphics are just impeccable and the game play is brilliant. It's cool because it's one of those games that gets your heart racing, say during a intense part of the game! Unfortunately because I "acquired" it, the cheat commands wouldn't work for me! Ah well, honestly it's one of the first games I finished without internet or magazine help!
