Hello to all
Recently, I lost everything on one of my partitions and i wasn't able to recover them but this is not the issue. The issue is that when i check for errors on that partition (which is in NTFS format)using PartionMagic 8.0, i get the following:
Error # 1611
Bad system file name, File9(48)
Bad system file name, File11(48
I don't understand what this means ? And What Utility can make thorough scan hard drive partitions for errors and fix it ?
PS I am Using Norton Utilites 2002 but it's sub-program Norton Disk Doctor does not seem to recongnize any errors

Look at the picture, it should be self explanitory. Open up My Computer, then right click on the hard drive, go to properties. Then go to the tools tab, and Error checking.

Unfortunately, I have done this b4 but the scandisk stuck at 49 % in "stage 5" (when it examines free surface space). Does that mean i have got physical error ??? - i am worried
P.S. I used to have a special folder called "System Volume Information" on my C:, D:, E: partiotions except the troublesome F: partition - can this contribute to the problem and if yes, how to create that folder
For more convenience, i have attatched a screenshot of the error
THANKS

I was really hoping somebody would have helped you by now. I can't give you an honest answer, I don't know.
My guess is you have physical errors on the drive. What brand HD do you have? Some will have a repair disk specific to that brand. If that disk finds an error, you may be able to get a brand new hard drive. It gives you a code, you send it to the company, and they send you a new drive.

It's OK if nobody answered - i Get rid of this problem at last by formatting many times and at last, the err was gone

Yep - NTFS vs. PM8 can be very kinky sometimes, particularly if u use the compressed folders and / or Quick Indexing Service on. Or even the "Disk Quota Service" ...
After that when more than 2 unrecoverable errors arise the whole partition shall be formatted cleanly (best is with PM8 diskettes or bootable CD)
(Those errors refer mostly to the MFT (Master File Table, which somehow represents the FAT(32) [File Allocation Table] at Fat-based partitions...)
Very seldom have i seen physical errors giving those replies = Never !! (Kyle06)
The best point is that most data can still be recovered before formatting if having room elsewhere ....
The "System Volume Information" Folder is simple alive when u have System Recovery on and U have included that partition into it...
If Not, then the whole dir can be deleted with nothing to loose!
(Only at NTFS u sometimes get error that u cannot open the folder nor delete it particularly when the File Sharing is on...)
Just some "post-info" what propably happened
P.S. I use all but one of my partitions as Ext Fat32, because it's reliable and Fast, and one NTFS-partition because of the Fat32's 4GB File-Size limit.
(When making f.e. ISO-files for DVD-Burner they most likely are over 4GB sized )
