Big thrash fan eh? Meliah Rage should fit nicely in that group. I'm not a huge thrash fan, but I do really like Overkill. They have been around forever, and still kickin'. Has anyone heard their new album, Killbox 13. The reviews on amazon are good, but I haven't gotten around to checking it out yet.

Yea, I was thinking the last time I watched MTV other than just flipping through the channels was sometime in the late 80's.

Superjoint Ritual

Immortal

Centinex

Soulfly

Caliban

Cradle of Filth

Heretic

Lamb of God

They are not the heavy metal type where you can't understand the lyrics but a good Swedish band i've been listening to a lot lately is Machinae Supremacy, their website is here http://www.machinaesupremacy.com/ .

KNAC ripped. It was a sad day when they signed off. We still don't have any decent rock stations in LA. Thankfully www.knac.com is still on the air, I can still get my fix. They still have some of the original dj's :gj

KNAC.COM is the saving grace of this city. There is also a kick ass station out of San Diego on regular FM. I want to say it's Rock105.3. Unfortunately, I seem to be screwed in all directions. KNAC does not buffer well on my raging 56K line. 105.3 does not transmit strong enough all the time (only in vehicle at that). There is also a MusicChoice channel provided by Adelphia Cable that plays metal that I would LOVE to have, but since I am renting a room, the cable choice is left to the landlady.

Here are some from the personal collection:

Accidental Suicide
Anacrusis
Artension
Comecon
Death
Demolition Hammer
Entombed
Epidemic
Forbidden
GRIP Inc.
Hallows Eve
Heathen
King Diamond
Lethal
Machine Head
Manowar
Melvins
Metal Church
M.O.D.
Motorhead
Nailbomb
Nuclear Assault
Reverend
Savatage
Soulfly
Testament
Treponem Pal
Vio-lence
Voivod

Nightwish and Sonata Arctica (+ Stratovarius) , first one's singer ms. Turunen used to go "Opera-High-School", she p* off with all that and went to search good musicians - and whatta combination with her voice, that live melodic/new-age heavy with a great sound (from Finland as Sonata Arctica and Stratovarius)...

Sonata's lead singer is more like opposite to Turunen, he uses both high and very low voices with a GOOD combination.

Both bands are having great lead guitarists (I love long and strong solo's)....

And - Both bands have made success at many foreign countries, visited U.S & Canada and funny that they have such a much fans at south Africa (mostly Nightwish) ....

At http://www.nightwish.com/ You can find nfo of them if "wish"...
and http://orbita.starmedia.com/~edsonmallet1/Comentarios.htm
and http://www.truemetal.org/sonataarctica/

Also I like Stratovarius (can be found @ truemetal.org too) - they started to make heavy with Cellos and all those Big-Band stuff and at first it sounded like funny, but now after years it has become a "True Metal" (Still having those cellos with... ;-)

Of those foreigners I like RammStein ("Sonne" is great) and of the oldies of cource the big starters : Deep Purple, Uriah Heep (later Whitesnake, Ozzy O. [at his younger days with teeth & ears] etc...)

I "eat" quite a lot heavy and mostly like great lead quitarists like Ritchie Blackmore was such a guru at his days...

AND I put a bit blues here off-topics : GARY MOORE as mr. guitar - a great person at music and real life...

Yep, couldn't agree more with Azo. If you want to listen to some Good music, try one of those 3 mentioned there. Also, Hammerfall, Rhapsody and Luca Turilli are not too bad either.

Give a listen to Tad Morose (Matters of the Dark CD), Pagan's Mind (Infinity Divine CD), or Steel Prophet (Book of the Dead CD).

Also, check the Artist Discussion forums at www.hardradio.com for suggestions on some of the better heavy metal bands.

Kevin - There are a lot of power metal bands in Italy, as far as i know.

One good heavy/speed metal band from Italy is Eldritch (IMHO), then there are

Mortuary Drape, Rhapsody and some others, but i think that i don't know a lot

about them.

What about Rhapsody and Luca Turilli as their main singer and solo career singer from Italy. Have You listened? Just reasonable Heavy Metal for my ears and for Maik-999 even more...! "Hollywood Metal" is the name for their style.

And Fabio Lione of cource :

Infinity Divine by Pagan's Mind was a kickass album, but their second cd "Celestial Entrance" totally blows that one away. Its absolutely incredible. Think of really heavy metal mixed with melodic singing and atmospheric ambiance all entwined together. Give it a listen some time if you haven't already. I've got all kinds of info on them, give me a message some time on AIM and I'll tell you about it.

If you're looking for stuff where you can hardly hear what they're saying, it's most likely you're after nu-metal rather than heavy-metal ;)

Dude..did you just wake up from hypersleep? You really have no clue do you? Metallica officially sucks now. You wanna talk queer? Look at Hammett. And for that matter, any photo on the Reload album. The only people that top Metallica are the fours guys that are banging them. Pantera puts them to shame. They are nowhere close to Slayer. And Superjoint...well, it just seems you have a problem with Anselmo.

Yeah, I dig these bands. I also dug Metallica...that is, until I bought St. Anger. What a piece of crap. Shoulda been called St. Angst or St. Whiner. Anyhow, I'm willing to bet you dislike Korn with a passion, especially since J. Davis dissed the new album.

Bands get old. Bands die. Some are just the living dead. "Disposable Heroes" indeed.

Just because theire new album is far too commercial for it's own good doesn't mean they're not a great band, LotD.

Lord_of_the_Dense
March 19th, 2004, 07:41 AM
You're absolutely right, nas. Let me clarify.

They are a great band for what they did in the past. They are no longer such for the disasters they create in the present.

Whether the album is commercial or not is irrelevant. Some could easily say that the black album was commercial. IMO, that album was great, along with the concert that supported it. The fact is, they changed their sound. Significantly. The vocals and the drums are completely different now. It is this that many fans and bands whom they have inspired have noticed. This isn't some big surprise. It's been going on for years. The diehards just need to accept the fact that some bands just lose their mojo over time.

If you're that bored try a change:

Band: 'Pink Fairies'
Album: 'What a Bunch of Sweeties' - most of it good but 'Walk Don't Run' is special though really need the tracks before and after to hear the lead-in and out.

Band: 'Free'
Album: 'Free - Live'
Tracks: 'Mr. Big' and 'Ridin' on a Pony'

Or go into orbit for while with,

Band: 'Hawkwind'
Album: 'Space Ritual (Live)'
(double album)
(Hope you like poetry.)

Also Hawkwind on the live double album 'Christmas at the Patti' but doubt you'll find that one anywhere.

Ain't heavy metal, but who cares - play loud and I doubt you'll be disappointed.
