that is actually a very interesting concept...
The Meme wrote:
There is a general assumption that copyright has been around for a long time and is a good thing. With digital copyright, however, there are several facts that are being clouded through poor analogies.
1) We are now copyrighting numbers.
2) There are innumerable ways to represent each number.
3) Each number can represent many different things.
An interesting thing happens because of this. If you give a copyright to any number, sequence of numbers, or computer file then one of two things must be true. Either there exists an alternate encoding of the number, sequence or file that is not (and cannot be) copyrighted, or all numbers, sequences, and files are copyrighted. If the first is true, there is an encoding of every file that can be copied at will. If the later is true, no one can create any file without infringing on someone else's copyright.
There is no middle ground and neither alternative makes any sense. The entire concept of digital copyright is simply un-true.
The OFF System is an attempt to make this meme approachable to more people. It is a system that shares only uncopyrightable encodings of a work.
If people wish to argue against the system they must argue in one of the following ways.
1) Everything may be already copyrighted, but copyright is only good for a certain use. (This removes the presumption of guilt by possession.) This is a fine argument. It means anyone can share anything they want. It is the consumer who must be held responsible for its use.
2) Copyright infringement can only be determined through a law suit. It cannot be know in advance. This is the impossible to prescribe behavior in advance argument. This sets off both liberals and conservatives.
3) Orthogonally. "This maybe true, but I don't care it is still bad. If it is bad it must be illegal." These are arguments hackers live to shread.
i believe someone spoke of this "OFF" business at one time.
again, interesting and seemingly plausible, the way they put it anyhoo.

believe someone spoke Right that's from Captain Morgan's material. Jack stole it as the lead for the OFF Sketches. Cap is in Kuwait now so he can't check in as often but there is plenty of good information. Steal whatever you need.
The OFF system in full implementation is really two hacks away though, I'm more interested in the material that can help the people who are getting sued.
Here is a link to Cap's "HiJack (http://www.zeropaid.com/bbs/showthread.php?t=14453)" thread here at zp, I think that came right after the two of them finished the overall strategy for hack 2.

Spamming for a good cause; it isn't bad when it's good.
