hi,
here's a new one for ya all. I just hooked up my hdtv cable box, which happens to have a digital/optical out (you can see the possibilities) and i treid to hook up my minidisc player to it via optical cable. Now, they have already thought of that too, because when you try to record (which would be a perfect digital signal) it gives you a "no copy" (copy protection) message and you cannot record. Does anyone no if theres a way to beat this? It would be great to get a perfect digital signal for recording. PBS runs a program called soundstage on high def and it is unreal how good it looks and the sound is pure digital. i'd love to be able to record those live shows, not to mention the 50 music channels out there. Anybody have any ideas? TIA

im not sure if they have them for the optical outs. but i believew you can use rca jacks and the quality will be just about the same. They also have chips for those boxes to get the ppv channels.

Or you could just look all over the internet for a firmware and buy a load of ROM cards and also a card programmer and have all the channels for free

Im trying to find one for NTL digital

I'd imagine pirate cable with an access card would be a risky proposition.

I mean, you have a two-way link between you and the cable company. They ought to be able to detect the illegal box, right?

At that rate, you should just get pirate satellite O_o. DirecTV stuff is all over the place, and Dish network seems to have a few places online with info.

Thanks but I'm not looking to steal anything really. I just want to make a good digital copy for my own vieing, the same way you would with a vcr. it seems silly to me that you aren't able to do this becasue the quality is better....

Correct. I know of a few stories of NTL customers having this problem! Oh, and RCT, your signature has your NTL account name in it. Just letting you know.
