This idea implemented in software would work like this : when u clicked on a file to download from a user you would not recieve the same actual data that is present on thier hard drive , you would recieve the difference between that file and one the both users have.
The file that is the result of that difference would not be an actual mp3, movie or something like that , if u compressed the differance it would help , spanning a download across multiple users would work with the compare + differance being done on portions of the file from bit 0 - 20000 , and other users at differnet points.
I think this could be a decent legal argument that the files being sent are not the actual movie or music that a company could complain about , i only share text file + stuff myself so i dont worry about getting sued. let me know if someone else has had this idea and if anyone is working on it in software or wants to.
It would be a great addon to kazaa.

Welcome to ZP.

Unfortunately I think that this idea has been posted in one form or another many times at this site. The thing is it doesn't matter what parts of the file are sent by who. If when it is all put together it makes a copyright song, then there is no legal argument. The people that sent the parts can all be screwed.
As for sharing, you are still safe sharing games and software. Only music files you need to worry about.

So, you're saying that if we break the music down to something that can be deciphered to the original recording, then they can't naiil you for copying it? How about we use 0's and 1's? Oh wait, that was already done a while back....

Is your name Shawners? No
Is that your computer? No

It might just work. Why don't you set the precedent on it?

Who in da world goes by Shawners? =)
Why not a window popup when you to download a file and says, these files are for evaluation only , and are deleted every 24 hours, and you must delete the file your about to download before 24 hours. To access this song, you must not be working for or affiliated with any law service and must not use this as evidence in a court. YOur ip has been logged, and if you enter will comfirm it.
Something along those lines, i think we can use the law on our side if done right =)
As far as if this is my pc, My dog uses it, he has a doggie network which he is the moderator for.

The last person who suggested a disclaimer was a newbie, so I was soft. You, on the other hand, have zeropaid thick skin.

Easiest stupid question to answer.. dont share copyrighted stuff! Pretty simple eh? And as for the "24 hour rule", its complete bollocks and wouldnt stand up in court atall. Its just made up and has no real meaning.

Well for me, that would kind of defeat the purpose of P2P.

I'm asking you guys because I might get the most direct answer. I suggested on another site that file-sharing should legalized and gave my reasons. The only response was that while a few people would buy stuff if they liked it, most are greedy and wouldn't just preview to buy, but simply keep what they download.

So, if it were legal, would you actually buy something you downloaded if you decided that it was worth the money?

NO. I would NOT buy something I downloaded just because it turned out to be great. I would and have, however, bought DVD's that I had already downloaded because they came with extra content I could either not download, was not possible to download (like great packaging) or had extra content I could not find for download. The Big Lebowski anniversary DVD is an example. I have already downloaded several versions and even the Hi Def version but I bought the new DVD because of the extra content and the awesome packaging. The DVD comes inside of a plastic bowling Ball. I thought that was cool as hell. This is exactly how the studios should handle their DVD's. Keep adding little extra's that make fans want to buy their merchandise. That Lebowski DVD wasn't even much more than a regular DVD. It was $20.

The little extras is where its at!

when you get into blue-ray media there should be a lot of extras for what they still charge, otherwise the trend will continue.
I have purchased a complete sets of certain HBO shows and TV shows for the same reason as Mel.

I think adding little simple video games related to the film would be fun. Also add some pop up trivia games during the movie. There are tons of ways to stimulate DVD sales and some people are listening.

I think a great way to bring people back to buying is to add shorts or serials like they had in theaters back in the old days. A new Three Stooges type short that could only be seen on new DVD's and nowhere else could help sales. It couldnt hurt!

it's all about creative marketing and conducive ideas. Maybe this is why so many business brands are moving offshore because we've become too complacent and/or stupid.
