We're using Roxio to rip some CD's. (Not newly bought new ones. Don't buy new anymore) OS is ME. Keep getting an error message "Creatr 50 Kernel32.DLL. ". We shut down the computer and it still comes up, sometimes even freezes when we try to open Roxio again. Can anyone tell me why and how to prevent this? Thanks.

I've never heard a good word about that program. Perhaps you should try AudioCatalyst. I'll try and find you a link...

EDIT: Sorry, I didn't realise it cost money ;-)

search google for "EAC" and use it to rip CD's...the quality makes EasyCD rips look like shit.

Also try disabling the taskbar thing ( run > msconfig > create32 ) then ripping if you must use it...

I'm guessing you mean http://exactaudiocopy.de/ rather than the Evil Atheist Conspiracy?
It appears to still be in Beta, is it still easy to use?

Theres a bit of a learning curve, but you'll catch on quick...

It's always in 'beta' but I have yet to hit a snag with it....just as long as you have a decent drive with gobs of read options (read: a Plextor http://www.plextor.com/english/index.html ...lol) you should be fine and even if you don't it'll work just fine....

EAC is the standard, its most likely the best. I preffer cdex though.

http://www.cdex.n3.net/

Open source, LAME encoding, easy to use, I love it.

Is there any advantage to changing from AudioCatalyst? Bearing in mind that I only use it about 3 times a year.

Well, cdex is free, uses (IMO) the best mp3 encoder, and produces some of the best quality mp3's you can get.

What encoder does audio catalyst have? I know coming from easy cd creator, even at the same bitrate, cdex was miles ahead

From the brief research I hust did, AudioCatalyst uses a poor encoder, by the sounds of it, its own one. I may try Cdex next time I plan to rip a CD. It may be as soon as next week.

Thanks CCSDUDE, but cdex sounds easier! Thats worth alot to me!

Yeah EAC is the best and CDEX is right up their with it and they are both freeware.

Recently I had trouble converting a .aac file to wav format and I used all the stuff available at rarewares and nothing worked. I tried Easy CD-DA Extractor and it worked. I saw it uses lame codec and it is a combo ripper, burner and file converter. It is worth snagging off a p2p network just for the ease of file conversions and of course it's easy to use for ripping for folks who balk at EAC.

I realise that this is proably the biggest cliche, but nero is a very effective way of burning. As for ripping, I got cdex, and never looked back. Very worth while. As for roxio, it caused untold damage to my pc, and was well over 100 meg to install.

Yeah Nero is good and there are plugins for working with various file formats. But I personaly just use it for burning and EAC for ripping.
Here is a link to their plugins page

I was having problems burning certain DVD formats (namely DVD-R) with Nero, so I got Easy CD Creator 6 and it's doing a beautiful job. To be honest, although Easy CD Creator uses more resoucres, I think it has the best ASPI, atleast for what I'm using it for, I haven't had any compaitibilty problems since.

Why are you ripping with Easy CD Creator?

Time to upgrade, Windows ME sucks! Microsoft also not going to support it anymore. Forget it, and move on!

It's a problem with your hardware. Change it!

I have Me and roxio. I have to say that the main prob is me...is bites. i hate it. ihateit!

okay that said, even one of the tech support people/drones at gateway told me that me was my prob. we've had the computer for 2 years, and i have reformatted at least 3 times. and then i got in the argument when i was going to do it the 3rd time w/ the tech person that i should write zeros to the hard drive. but anyway....yes, get something else. roxio is ok, but it does conflict with a lot of stuff, and it is also part of the whole DirectCd thing which will really kill your computer.

... if you decide to stick with roxio, you might find some help at the discussion groups at the roxio site ... in the past, when needed, it was at their discussion groups that i found some very helpful & knowledgeable people & was able to find information & answers to questions i had ...

I have Roxio Easy CD/DVD 6. It's my favorite of all the burning proggies. I've tried others, but always go back to Roxio.

Instead of going around like an idiot downloading new programs up the ying yang just go to the roxio website and get the update for it, most likely that will solve your problem right there because out of the box ECDC 5 is incompatible with Me or XP.
