Are you lookin for a modem or highspeed broadband connection?
I am using what was pacbell now SBC DSL and with 1,536 kbps download it is ok with me. Upload not as fast but ok still.
I have had good experience with calling help desk a few times so as far as my experience I recommend them, they also have dialup.
And haven't heard any words to the effect of they have hassled anyone about file sharing.
At least not so far. :-)
Oh I noticed you mentioned yahoo's new dialup, that is SBC they are working with.
Yahoo is cool, I remember yahoo when it was one page and the web was just a hundred sites or so. :-)
Also like their free services.
I noticed you have a group. I am beginning one also, called musicmagnet.

Still need to work on it. :-)

i used to have AOL until i finally got sick of it always kicking me off. a friend of mine used to have msn, bellsouth, something else, and something called vnet. out of those, she liked vnet the most and has had it for 7 years. i switched to vnet and it has kicked me off twice since i got it on july 20th. you can get to vnet by going to www.vnet.net. if you dont want dial-up, the best is always roadrunner, unless you want like T3 which is REALLY expensive. later

I currently use Cox with cable modem, they are all right, but if your gonna go broadband, I would reccomend either DSL or wireless (aerosurf) T1, if I could get DSL where I live I would get that, as far price goes DSL is more affordable than the wireless, fortunately my brother can afford the T1 wireless and he lives just down the road so I get plenty of chances to use that, hopefully someday the prices will come down to realistic levels.
lion7718 really enjoy your group,
Rick the magnet is gonna be killa soon, did you happen to see the links I posted?

I would use TalentG Internet at www.talentg.com they have a great deal right now that I still think is going on, $7.99/motnh, unlimited access for 56k users!! only 7.99/month! for unlimted access, or if the deal is off now it's then 9.95.. but whatever thats cheap.. it has no banners, no commericals, nothing, just good old internet, I've had it since Feb. and it's kicked me off around 3 times I'd say.. but I love it for only 7.99 month.. if you have any questions on it ask me, I've had it for a while now PowerMan572@hotmail.com AIM=PowerMan572

I use AOL too. I don't particularly like then but managed to get a good deal (AOL Titanium: £9.99 a month for unlimited access) - I'd change if anyone was cheaper but that seems to be the best deal I can find in the UK.

If you have a modem that supports new standads like v.44 and v.92 then make sure your new isp supports that. It makes quite a difference when you can use the new standards. Your speeds will be higher and everything will be smoother. My isp is CenturyTel. Theyre a fairly large company, but im not sure they are everywhere. they have good service, support new standards, and dont disconnect me every 2 hours like other isps do.

you already said that you were looking for a new dial-up account, but this is important if you do decide to look into cable internet.
"You should know that RoadRunner is quietly blocking the use of Kazaa in certain markets. Particularly in Texas, they have some sort of port scanner in place which scans for Kazaa activity and then disables use of that port, rendering the program completely useless."

i'm using comcast and it's really sweet. for double the price of dial-up you get 50 times the speed. fair trade-off to me. there is also a comcast pro package, 3500 down, 384 up. but that's 100 bucks a month.

Talentg is a good choice. Another good choice would be NetZero or Juno (cheap). I used those before I got pacbell DSL. I would never use AOL though. Too many freakin problems with them.

If you can possibly swing it, go for DSL, it will change your whole internet experience and make it much more enjoyable.
It may be twice the price of your current AOL but you will get way past more than double the value.
People say cool things about cable but when I compare the speed and cost, you might as well go DSL.
Most companies will give you a DSL modem if you sign up during a promotion. Heck I got a whole computer during pacbells promotion when they entered the dsl market.
Go for it ! :-)

:devil For dialup I would see about using a local dial up. Most times the service is cheaper and the tech support is better than the vanilla national ISPs. But if you have the means broadband is the way to go. You will never miss dialup with a broadband connection
