using peerguardian still helps people hide their IPs from peerguardian!! Even though the RIAA can just use a random DSL line, im pretty sure RIAA is still using their normal just to catch the people who don't use the special programs

Did you mean to hit "Post Reply" instead of "New Thread"?

(No he meant to increase his post count)
Peerguardian was originally a placebo, i e not useful but basically harmless (except in the way that a person relying on a placebo might not get the real medicine they need.) It has since been gradually poisoned by people with mixed agendas.

Ok don't know why this was posted on a new topic or something but just to clear things up - There is no way of stopping people getting your IP. If no one can get your IP, you couldnt browse the web, or download, or upload, or anything. Your IP is what connects you to the net. Altho peerguardian will stop people getting access to your uploads, but doesnt mean they cant get your IP. Any website you visit will have your IP.

Proxy servers go along way to helping, but if you think about it, the problem may not be solved using technology. Maths and probabilities could also be used. If networks could be organised so that the right peers know just the right amount of information about eachother, then p2p may become truely anonymous. So far the layouts that have been considered in various academic reports have yet to prove perfect. Such systems would also prove chat and leech-busters to be imposible.
