Hi i have a file shredder, and it has 14 levels of security. (the number of times it overwrites the file before finally deleting. I think using 12 takes too long especially on 100+ megabyte software files. What's a good number of times to delete a file?

I use Window Washer and have it set for 3 though I think default is 2. I think anything above 3 exceeds standards of the US Department of Defense.

I think they say 8 to completely destroy it.

I set it to 7 on Windows Washer.
But then again, I have nothing big that the Government wants.
