Just wondering if there is any way to convert the playstation 2 console so that it can run and play vcd's? there has to be a mod out somewhere. also what do you need to copy playstation 2 games, a dvd burner, or can u just use a cdr?

From what i can tell is that the playstation 2 cannot play Vcds and there are no mod chips that can change it either.

Some people claim to be able to run SVCDs on the PS2. This is because the PS2 movie playback software is a Mpeg 2 decoder and SVCDs are in Mpeg 2 format, while VCDs being in mpeg 1 format.

There is a discussion about PS2s and VCDs here:

Though how much of it is true i dont know.

Im not too sure about what you need to 'back up' PS2 games. I would say a DVD burner...maybe someone can correct me on this.

I know that some mod chips dont play certain types of DVD media such as DVD - R, so check out your mod chip to see what it is compatible with.
