IMG snaps up peer-to-peer service
IMG Entertainment on Tuesday said it bought online peer-to-peer music Web site Songspy.com for undisclosed terms. Songspy.com said it differs from other online peer-to-peer music services like now-idled Napster because it is the first of its kind that plans to pay royalties to artists through the record companies while keeping the service free for users.
In order to pay royalties to the music companies, Songspy.com's new owners said they are developing software that will enable them to track which songs are downloaded, the companies said. The tracking system is expected to be in place within three to four months. Songspy.com will then use this technology to compensate the record labels, whereby they can then pay the musical artists, based on users downloading frequency.

THROUGH the record companies? hahaha. Thse damn grifters will keep 95%, give the musicians 5% and then take an additional point for "administrative reasons." Im sick of these assholes getting rich (the record execs) while they bitch and moan about how much money fsp's are losing them. Its entirely horseshit. As soon as a new artist comes out that I actually think has even a bare modicum oftalent, Iwould have actually bought the cd. Until recently, now the record companies can all shrivel and die, like Rep. Howard Bermans.... oh, never mind. hey, it could happen, he is hollywoods slut, who knows what kind of little germies he might get. But yeah, Im bouncing off topic. song spy. royalties. to the musicians.... lol. yeah right. That might happen, sure. And the heads of every major industry wont give themselves million dollar bonuses this year, despite all this "losing money"
Im justwondering.... how is IMG going to keep this free? Somehow, I dont see them doing that if songspy blows up past its current level. Which is a shame, if these people understood that they are here to provide aservice to the people, and not the other way around, theywouldnt currently be in the situation they percieve. In realizing this, they would realie that it is they who must adapt to our needs- not try and force us into doing what they wish. Ok. Im done now. whether it makes any sense or not...

Yes yes you like mediaseek... but it is not a very stable program, unlike audiogalaxy. Remember, AG was an extremely small program, while mediaseek is more system intensive.
