If the RIAA wins a lot of it's cases and the lawsuits continue. What if it all goes to the supreme court and they still win their cases?

What will happen then? OK so anonymous P2P will be the way to go. But then where does it end? The answer is it wouldn't. There would then be the next step in their crackdown. Forcing ISP's to monitor bandwidth usage and spy on users net habits. Where will it stop?

We can only pray that even if they do win that the consumers will boycott and their sales continue to fall until they become smaller and less powerfull.

I dunno. I have a feeling it's all gonna get Big Brother'ish and eventually the only way to get things such as MP3's is through various encrypted and anonymizing techniques. And not in volume anymore either less you trigger the spies alerts.

taking everybody to court will not work. It works(?) for now but they know this can't go on forever. There is NO way to stop filesharing (and all other "illegal" activities on the net). That is just the way internet works. They think of a way to stop it, we think of a way to stop them from stopping us. Simple as that!

and eventually the only way to get things such as MP3's is through various encrypted and anonymizing techniques. See? You said it yourself. That is just one of the solutions.

keep sharing

Nolonger would the average man have to buy 20 dollars worth of crap anymore!. But the menace, The Revolutionary Independists for All Asses, i mean, RIAA, came to the scene to destroy the lives of ever hard working person, we shall not be defeated!. FileSharing Soldiers, Take up you arms and dont buy these little rich bastards lame music. We shall not be defeated, we shall not be conquered, we shall not perish. Yes people will get their asses sued, but the price of liberty is well worth it. So next time you see an RIAA Person, tell them 'No, I will never but something from you ever again you sack of shit'. Until they lower their prices to a reasonable price, we will start buying again. Or better yet make a program with monthly billing at low prices with unlimited burning. But as long as their is good their will always be evil. We'll fight em in the ground, we'll fight em in the sea, we'll fight them as far as our digital eyes can see. Thank You"

Well, in all seriousness, the technology for music swapping is relatively still in the dark ages relatively. I can see in the all too near future, many people carrying around palm pilot type things that play music, just like an iPod or other mp3 players all with HUGE hard drives.

Say in 5 years, if storage drives keep getting larger and larger as they have been in the last 5 years, we'll be able to hold hundreds of gigabytes just in a little flash memory type PDA. At that point you can easily access thousands of music files without even needing a computer, let alone an IP address. You can broadcast the files using the "beam" function and spreading music will be easier than ever. PDAs and cell phones are one now, and so in a few years there will be as many people with a PDA as a cell phone or more as time goes on.

I'm not dreaming this up at all, it's already not only completely possible but already being done, my cousin has a nice PDA with a 10GB hard drive that she downloads movies from other people with. My friend Andy uses his as an mp3 player and has many full albums on his. It will just get easier as more people convert to it.

This will take a lot of upload burden off the networks, and therefore Americans really won't even have to share anymore. Half the population in Canada already has broadband, in 5 years, they'll be a lot more I'd imagine and since there is no way to sue them, they are completely free to share all the music they want.

I can see clients asking if you live in the US when you first install them, and if you are, it will advise you to only share at your own risk, or they'll ask you as you download it whether you want to share it.

They can make all the laws they want, but technology is exponentially moving away from them and their oh so sad stubborness with how things have been in the past.

Yes, P2P can never be completely stopped but it can be driven underground thereby becoming a fringe activity- at least in this country. When it's a fringe activity it will suck- the selection of available media will be severely truncated because of the relatively small size and paranoia of the filesharing community.

The lawsuits will probably not drive P2P underground but I predict that once they find out that P2P hasn't been driven underground, the police will get involved and begin arresting filesharers- it IS a criminal offense, the Bush administration just hasn't done anything about it yet. That will change once the RIAA begins giving the Republicans a fairer share of their bribe money. When people start being thrown in prison for filesharing, that's when it will be driven underground.

I watched a BBC news documentary today about how America is becoming ever more a police state and how people have joined civili liberties in record numbers since 9/11. It showed how one peaceful protest the police stormed in and broke it up without any provocation firing into the crowd.

Bush has already made the statement "your either with us or against us" which is narrow minded. There is the patriot act giving more power to the authorities to search into people privacy without need for special warrants. The government has gone mad over in the US.

(1) they wont stop P2P they wudnt have the time to take millions of people to court and they wud loose they wud lose the little income they are making of us P2P users.

(2) if they did manage to stop P2P there are plenty of other ways to download mp3's, films, etc... we have ftp we have irc and we wud probably come up with other ways.

(3) P2P rulez keep shareing

Don't forget that we are fighting our own battles in the UK, perhaps not P2P yet, but against ID Cards and Satellites tracking our cars:
http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/uk_politics/2975216.stm
Congestion charging will never work, however much traffic falls by - all it does is clears the roads for fat-cats in big cars who can afford it. Satellites will in future be able to monitor your speed, it will be like every inch of the road has a speed camara.

Why not just insert chips in our heads to make sure we don't think anything illegal, after all, the innocent have nothing to be afraid of.

ftp and irc are the most insecure forms of file sharing. The ip addresses involved are plainly visible. ftp sites were being shut down constantly even before p2p existed.

Now that the RIAA has an organized effort to shut down file sharing, IRC and FTP are just as bad as Kazaa. It's just a matter of time or whether the RIAA considers ftp and irc enough of a danger to deal with.

Well... maybe you're right. Maybe the "RIAA mafia" will eventually succed, and they will disable functionality of "file sharing community" , and they will stop us from growing, and progression of the developement of new "file sharing" software.

Yes, It's possible...
But I think you fail to realize, where the problem really lies...
It's not about prevention of beeing sued... it's not about trying to hide your IP address from them...
It's about the "POWER"... and who has more of it...The "Legal Mafia" or the "Public oppinion"?.

I'm just not a "follower", but I don't consider myself to be a "Leader" either. I'm just someone, that knows how to organize people, so just let me do, what I'm actually pretty good at, which is organizing...
So have some faith, and give me some trust...Maybe I can make a difference, and maybe not... but give me some time, and try to do your part of the job, and help me spread the news around...
There is a new "Robin Hood" in the woods...

So now, all you have to do, is have a little faith, trust me, give me some support, help me out in spreading the "word" around, and be patient...
just sit back, and watch the whole world change, as I will unravel my plan, little by little, piece by piece...

So for now... "PEACE OUT!"

FTP and IRC are *technologically* insecure, provided that an enemy knows about the server and is able to access it. So, sure, PUBLIC IRC and FTP servers are at serious risk. But nothing says they must be public, and most FTP servers for sure are NOT public. To get access to the good FTP servers you have to be vetted to some degree to prove you are not an agent of The Man. Small servers of <50 people who have known and trusted each other for years - those are pretty damn safe, and probably about as safe as anything, despite the technological security weaknesses of the protocol itself. Well, WASTE networks are even safer, because of the strong encryption.

He he he... I love sarcasm... I think that sarcasm is the best form of humor, when properly used, of course.

And I'm not suprised, of people being so skeptical about the whole thing...
Skepticism, lies in our human nature, and it was implanted by our everyday life expieriences... How... it's simple... because we all know that there is no such a thing like a "saint gooddoer", and we're convinced that it doesn't exist, because we have not yet seen any miracles happening...
We haven't seen it yet... but what if...?:angel

I'm sorry for my grammar, but guess what... English isn't my native language, and I do realize that it still does need a little work... besides, don't you just have anything smart to say for a change, instead of bringing up unimportant shit like my bad grammar.

Yup...it's true what they say "Ignorance is a bliss...":bk

But thank you anyways, if you wouldn't have pointed out my mistake, I'd never notice it. I've never gone to any school to learn English, so thanks again, because this is exactly what helps me learn proper grammar...:shy so now I'm just gonna go ahead and correct this <sarcasm on>HUGE<sarcasm off>problem, just to make ya happy...

You, see... There is only one obstacle in my plan...
The obstacle I speak of, is peoples ignorance, and lack of trust in general...
Now this is the only thing, that can prevent me from achiving my gole... A gole that you people seem to have forgotten about... it is called "Freedom and Liberty for all..."

You may think, that I'm full of shit... sure, why not... I'd think like that myself... so no, you don't have to trust me... You can just sit back and watch as the file sharing community is being destroyed by the "RIAA mob".

But remember one thing... (and this is important)...

You need to be patient, but you have to understand, that for my plan to work, the timing is crucial!

"RIAA gangsters" are getting more and more aggressive everyday, so if I will not be able to gain people trust in me in time, then the "Rich dictators", WILL screw up any chance we have for my plan to work, by breaking us down into little pieces...

Please... you have to realize of how much "Power" the internet has given us... It's the power to comunicate. And comunication my friends, IS THE KEY!!!

So please, whether you belive me or not, try to help me out, by simply "spreading the word around"! That's all I ask of ya. Do what you do best... JUST TALK ABOUT ME ANYWHERE YOU CAN.

FUCK... for once in your entire lives, stop being such a narrow minded creatures, have a little faith AND TRUST ME!, because if I'm not gonna gain your trust, and my handle Raf111 will not become well known in time, then I will fail to succeed.
So if I'll fail, and I'm sorry to say that..., but we will not get a SECOND CHANCE!!!

People, just think about it for a second here...Do you see me trying to sell you something? Am I advertising and promoting anyone?.... NO!!! So why don't you wanna trust me...? You have nothing to loose, but think about what you can gain, if I'm really for real. Believe me when I tell you, that I have never, in my entire live, betrayed nobody, and I don't plan on making this time an exception.
I assure you... I don't have any hidden agenda, or some kind of hidden "Get Rich Quick" scheme...

Think people, think... I can't do it all by myself.
"THE POWER OF UNITY", is the answer to all of your questions...

And just in case if you are curious, what I do for a living, then I'll tell ya...
... absolutely nothing!
I have organized my life in such a way, that All I do , is I make a phone call to one person, to do one thing for me, then I call another one, to do something else... and guess what... I don't do shit... but people around me are doing pretty good too, so they can't complain either.
I'm not a saint. I'm just another asshole :D. I just have never been a "follower"... I'm a "free spirit" (i'm not even married), and I do what I want. I refused to obey laws made by people with "power", but I use a "moral code" as my guide instead.

So don't expect too much from me... I love my life as it is right now, and I don't want to change it, and become some kind of "public servant person". That is why I preffer to remain annonymus, so please don't be an assholes and try to find out of my true Identity.

I know it will stop when they release a new operating system and new pc's that make it impossible to copy, download, upload, encode, and decode mp3, video, programs. It will stop there. They can sue everyone or they can get the technology department to put a end to it, every new hardware you buy only plugs up to the new machines that are piracy prrooof, so when your processor, hard drive, memory goes out, and your software stops patching software on that system that is when it will be over.
