Well just saw some news today in the paper that people are being caught by the hash signatures, and meta tags in the MP3's and filles that they're sharing on P2P, so what's the soloution to this, what tools are out there to whipe out clear, or change this info for Mp3's, files etc, anything we share on P2P, that we have on our boxes to keep the signatures from showing telling anything ?
I saw some hash tools, utilities in the past but don't remember ?

Ok I forgot about K-Sig would that do much help and when I exported the MP3 to html and opened it, it shows this:

File:Romantica.mp3
Length:4538506 Bytes, 4432KB
UUHash:=tK8NaOSoAW1eIvgb1SpRAnUOVX0=

Total: 1 Files

Well can we just make the UUHash or
the File Hash (Hex) anything we like and this helps to cover somethings up ?

Is K-Sig enough of a help or more utilites are needed besides this ?

That's bound to turn into a good discussion. One first step is to take the time and edit the ID3 tags, and properly rename the files. Make sure to clear the additional info fields or change it to your own (ripped by collideous - like it, buy it). Changing the ID3 tags will immediately change the hash signature. Of course, one could still calculate a hash of the content only, and completely ignore all ID 3 tags. This can only be countered by changing the files content, for instance by changing a random number of bytes. I haven't looked into that, but I'm sure there are tools to do such a thing.

I wouldn't recommend anyone to mess around with hashes, it is for your's & my protection from someone messing with the files.

Well some chick got busted because of the
Hash signatures, and meta tag entries in the MP3's and some other files she was sharing. The data they used on her went back as far as the year 2000 even on Napster when they were around. The hash sigs can get you busted.

Yeah I never thought that but in each frame header in mp3 there are bits that could be changed without breaking anything and this would of course result in a different hash. Of course, it would still be quite obvious and RIAA could easily show that if you change the header bits to match the example file they got, the hash would again be the same.

Oh, and the unfortunate side effect in everyone altering the hash is of course that multisourcing can't match the files either anymore.

um u are not allow to post links to hashes even though u didnt post the hash here, just the link u will be told to not do it.

so u should know that if you post the names of files you download, or hash links u will be told not to do it.
nuff said

other then that the divx link u provided is ok, but hash links isnt permitted.
that link is ok though the one u just posted, just so u know .
