Hi All
I've noticed that EMI is part of an RIAA company. Correct me if I am wrong here. And I know that EMI has a branch in the United Kingdom.
So what are the business/legal implications of the EMI branch in the UK then? Do they follow orders from the RIAA or the EMI HQ or someone, or are they more independent? anyone knows? lol

EMI is a part of the 'big 5' record companies. Since your laws are different than those of the United States, [I think] they follow different regulations than those of the US. I'm not too familiar with the legality of this senario, since you are in the UK. I don't think that it it possible for the RIAA to extend US laws over to England [so I've read & not 100% positive]. BUT they are trying really hard to enforce some of the same digital laws we have here in other countries. I read a few articles on this awile back. I could only find one link though. Maybe this will indirectly help you: :)

Thanks for the link. I doubt whether they'd have much luck in enforement in countries such as in Europe etc. Just laws are different. Even if you have government make an agreement with another on this issue, it's really the judiciary who have last say. But that's been said before too.
The only country I've heard of any US constituent like the RIAA changing (or otherwise) another country's law is Belgium. As I am told from a Belgian user here.......

What happened in Belgium? [Sorry - I'm a bit of a news freak :)] I read that in one of the Norwegian countries, [I can't remember which, but I think it was Switzerland], they enacted laws that made file-sharing illegal. File sharing in the majority of the world has not been crippled yet, [which helps me sleep alittle better at night!].
I've heard from hearsay that some of the European countries, [France in particular], have stricter internet privacy rights. Lawsuits being thrown at citizens would never happen there. Many people here in the US believe in their right to sue. There are way too many frivolous lawsuits filed here - i.e. car accidents, file sharing. Pretty crazy stuff.

France is more strict on privacy mainly due to the way they implement the European Court of Human rights' decisions on cases and treaties from the Council of Europe. In France it presides or something, in the UK it's discretionary, you get the idea........
