So I get tons of "Messenger Service" ads popping up all the time, and when I dl some Adware/Spyware tool, it shows me all these cookies that I should delete and all these messed up registry files. I can manually delete the offending cookies, but I can't manually fix the registry, or at least I haven't figured out how.

Is there any prog that won't charge you to fix the reg?

I used to use plain KaZaa which is how I got myself in this mess in the first place but I'm now using Lite... but the old problems remain... Help! I hate these ads that pop-up during my movies!!!

Try using Spybot or AdAware for the cleaning up spyware and cookies. I would also recommend you try jv16 Powertools for reg cleaning.

Spybot: http://spybot.eon.net.au/
AdAware: http://www.lavasoftusa.com/
jv16 PowerTools: http://www.freedownloadscenter.com/Reviews/r893.html

And now that I have seen Ken's post and re-read yours I would do what he recommended first. Then I would give the programs I mentioned a whirl to keep your system clean and running ship shape.

Well, you said your getting advertisments from the "Messanger Service".

Have you considered turning off the messanger?

Go to:

Start>Run>type "services.msc" (no quotes)> Find something labled "Messanger" in the "name" column. Right click on it, choose "properties". Find the "startup" pull-down menu and select "Disabled". Click "Apply" then click "OK"

Tada.

Run Spybot and Ad-aware.

Also, disable the Messenger service. Do this by going to Control Panel, Administrative tools, Services. Locate Messenger, Double click, stop the service, and disable it from loading at startup. This should help.

Thanks guys, I didn't know I could control messenger service. Half the ads I get are "How to never get one of these messages again - go to blah.com" So they would just charge me $20 to do the same disabling I've now just done?

Or is that the Adware talking? Well, I'll try the links you posted, thanks much.

Oh, take a look at the attachement... I get these about 1/per day. I hope the registry fixer takes this prob away.

Thanks again...

All those programs are scams. YES. You can disable it in ten seconds FOR FREE. Its the exact same thing you'd have paid $20 for.

Those combined should work fine for you cjules. I too used to get those annoying Windows messenger pop-ups. I installed ad aware, and disabled the service. Never was bothered by them again.
