The campaign launched in May by the Recording Industry Ass. of America (RIAA) to target individual music sharers appears to be scaring punters away from file-sharing services, the latest figures from market watcher NPD appear to show.

"Instead of downloading potentially poorly encoded or virally infected files, music fans are choosing to sample music at the 'legitimate' sites before making music download or, more likely, CD purchases."

Virally infected MP3, WMA or OGG? I think not.

lmao the riaa only counts p2p programs and everybody now knows that p2p programs are some of the worst places to get music

I really don't care if there are less users sharing 20 or less songs. Even if p2p loses a lot of users, there will always be the hardcore users who remain to share files with each other.
And if the regular p2p clients get terminated, there will probably come some ones with high security and encrypition, enabling us once again to share files.

So I'm not really worried. Actually, I like it better if p2p remains underground, instead of going far too mainstream... I mean, if even old people or people who barely know how to use windows start to use p2p, that can hardly be good for the community I think.

If you know where to look, you can download music encoded at far better quality than any legit pay service, with no DRM. Funnily enough, these files are not infested with viruses either...

I always thought they should cut out america, since America stands for freedom and individuality. I share tons of things, the way i share is through other programs without losing some security in this unsecure world. Why should i share my high byte rate files with kazaa?? They only seem to show the 192, or tons of 128 files.. And my files dont even show up what im sharing in there.

On another note.. The riaa could find that other 23 percent if they looked on the other networks to see where it went.. I mean... 23 percent JUST DOESNT vanish... We see how you are Riaa.. Using those numbers that dont add uP!!!
