windows messenger is acting weird

i was checking my logs in zonealarm and i found that windows messenger and messenger tried to creat outgoing connections 1064 times. i know i never had this many connections before. does anyone know of a new virus. or someway to fix this. i have also noticed that it now lags on the online games that i play. any suggesttions would be appreciated. my log resets every day so this is in one day.

right-click on my computer, select manage

click on the + next to services & applications

select services

scroll down to messenger

right click and select properties

under startup type select disabled, to disable it or manual so you start it yourself.
