View Full Version : Newsgroups? How about IRC?

How about IRC? Or mIRC? I've been on mIRC before, but found the downloading a bit tough, and the fact that you have to sit in queues before something ever gets downloaded. Plus, new users have to figure everything out on their own. Not good for newbies. Which is why P2P software is so much more popular. Unfortunately, the spineless individuals of the RIAA find IP's and from what I hear, sue the individuals that are downloading computer files.
I just wonder about how good IRC is for the people that use it constantly.
Thanks,
Dave

IRC is an invaluable resource.

Although i'd love to see these bastards taken off the link page
mircdownloads.cjb.net
Slyck has an IRC tutorial, although it's very very introductory.
I mostly use XDCC servers anyway.

I played around with IRC a bit, and found the queues too long. That's at least one advantage that newsgroups have
Though I do know several people who swear by IRC.

Just to clear something up, mIRC is a client used to go on an IRC server (such as irc.dal.net or irc.p2pchat.net).
Also, queue's on IRC aren't half as bad as those on WinMX or even SoulSeek. Patience is a virtue.

True. I was only comparing newsgroups to IRC, due to the title of the thread. Winmx has the worst q's of all.

And I find them more reliable. Remember, XDCCs and FSERVEs are usually dedicated to SUPPLYING files.
Not really P2P but ehh.....who gives a shit.
