I believe that Windows is too expensive at the moment. I'd be willing to pay up to 50 bucks for a decent OS, but never 300 or any number like that. I can barely afford to pay my bills as it is. Besides, after working with ME for 12 months because I had nothing better I don't think I have to pay for another version of Windows no matter how good it is.. not when it is freely available elsewhere.
Now if it was a reliable company with a good track record, then I might think differently.

1) Price
2) Product Activation
3) Possible problems with older software
4) Older version of Windows is working fine. Why update?

Because I didn't want to pay a ridiculous amount of money for a not-so-great product.

I didn't pay for XP because I beta test for Microsoft and they always send me the gold versions on completion. Not that I would pay for any Microsoft OS if I didn't get them for free, of course.

My PC came with XP Home version and I hated it.
I reformatted my hard drive and used my *cough* purchased copy of Windows 2000.

...because it was available for free from the net.
Got it about 20 days before shipping day. About a week or 2 after it went gold.

I didn't buy XP because I only have 2 gigabytes left. and the new features don't excite me.

hey Koffee Bean how ya doing....

I didn't buy XP because I tried it and didn't like it. I had a couple of major beefs with XP that did not exist while I used Windows 2000.
First, XP would not let me install my sound card drivers because they did not have an official Microsoft "digital signature". I fought for many days trying to force XP to install my sound card drivers anyway, but alas, it was no good. It still would not install.
The second major annoyance was the fact that Windows XP will not network to another machine via the NetBEUI protocol. Though some would say "use TCP/IP" to network, NetBEUI is easier to network with, IMO.
So here I sit in Windows 2000 or Linux, (whichever I choose to boot into). Windows XP sure wasn't an upgrade from Windows 2000, it felt more like a downgrade.
