Hi

I'd decided to upgrade my aging PC, so bought (on limited budget) a new processor and motherboard. I connected up the heatsink, fan etc. Added the bits & pieces, memory, AGP etc from my old board but when I turn the PC on it make a noise (i.e. like it’s loading up) but doesn’t really do anything, the monitor light blinks on and off and that's it.

Grateful if someone could point me to a website (tutorial) on installing a new motherboard and processor as obviously I’m doing something wrong.

Thanks in advance.

POST with only the RAM, the CPU, and the video card. Make sure your power connectors are plugged in properly.

Do you hear the hard drive spinning and reading anything??

Any beeps from the motherboard (could indicate certain errors)?

Is there power to the motherboard (are fans running etc)?

I know what it's like. LoL, a lot of stress. Well okay maybe not for you. But just this last year in spring, I built my own computer from scratch and ordered all the parts online except the video card.

When you say it's loading up, what happens? Like can you even see anything on the screen?

I'm sorry I can't say much more than this. It is very hard for me to direct someone when I'm not physically in front of the computer to see it's problem.

Thanks for the links.

The fan is working, the hard drive and cd lights come on but the screen is black, i'm thinking maybe something wrong with the video card.

I'll try a few of the sites and see how i get on.

Thanks again.

The key to solving problems is a systematic search and following simple directions.

If you cant unplug everything but the cpu, ram and video card, then your guess is as good as anyone elses.

Try to find another really basic video card and also check your monitor cable connection.
