ok we all know how many leechers there are on KaZaa.
So why don't they take out the button to stop shareing and make it so everyone would have to share. there for less leechers = faster downloads... and like I said it's just a idea...

Thats possible for future releases but all the leech needs to do is use an older version of kazaa that still has the option.
When designing kazaa they should never of had the option to disable sharing, why put in a feature that harms the network?
Its the same with upload and download bandwith settings, you see some people on kazaa who have high speed connections and set there upload to 0.01k that really annoys me because 1. there upload speed doesnt affect there download speed and 2. there pretending they are not a leech when they are.
Thats why I like edonkey, people are forced to share while downloading files so that even if you remove a file once you have completed downloading it, you have still been uploading it to people. It also only lets you download at 4 times the speed of your upload.

Or how about they put just a text file in their shared directory.
The checkbox didn't mean much to begin with.

The way kazaa operates, that would not work.
Just clear out your "shared" folder after the program is set up.
(or many other work-a-rounds)
Frankly, im getting sick of this gestapo esque crusade against "Evil Leachers"

Emule has a very unfair sharing system. You end up uploading at full speed whilst getting hardly anything downloaded.

i am 56k. i costs me 1cent per minute to be on. I would be on for 50% longer if i shared. I would have no problem sharing if i had bb but it is not available to me.

You're wrong that uploads don't affect download speed, they most certainly can and do. The reason they do is inherent in the design of the TCP/IP protocol itself. As you are downloading, ACKs and NAKs (acknowledgment and no-acknowledgment) packets are being sent to and from, across the network. Thus, the faster you are downloading, the more of your UPLINK is used for acks and naks. Conversely, the more of your uplink (uploading) bandwidth is used for transfers, the less is available for the acks and naks necessary to download.
This is extremely apparent on asyncronous-speed connections like ADSL, where you have (for example) 12k uplink and 128k downlink. If you send someone a file at full 12k speed and try to download something, you will get way WAY less than 128k. I've seen my download speed dip to less than 15k when saturating my uplink with a transfer. A good rule of thumb, to prevent massive degradation of download speed is to leave yourself around 4k of uplink bandwidth (for acks and naks) per 128k of downlink bandwidth. This means that I (one of those 12/128 people) can realistically only send at 8k or so if I wish to avail myself of my full 128k downlink.
Sorry for being so technical, but many people seem to think that the two 'pipes' for uploading and downloading are completely separate, and this just isn't the case; they are, to a degree, interdependent. People without asyncronous connections obviously don't even notice this problem, since their uplink speed isn't so tiny in proportional to their downlink speed.

I was speaking generally, as the effect is negligible.
I have a 20k upload so I set it at around 17k (you need a few k for handshaking) and can max my download. But alot of people reduce there upload down to about 8 or 10k,or even less ...why? thats an extra 7 k that they could be giving people.

Here's a solution. Don't use KazaA. It sucks now. Worst p2p app ever. LoL. Okay, not the worst, but it sucks.

Not against leeching, what the hell, the leeches can go die, if they don't wanna share, fine- don't download
edit: lol 1 file, that means like 1 gb is shared between everyone.
Even if you don't press the don't share button on kazaa, all you have to do is move the files from your shared folder.

lol, extreme times call for extreme measures
