I was noticing that filenexus.com and musicdonkey.da.ru had lot's of links for a techno complitation called thunderdome. There were so many volumes I couldn't count them.

But check it out. You need edonkey to download them.

The problem though is that Thunderdome is mostly compilations of gabber (unless they began compiling other types of music, I haven't been keeping updated on it) and not many people are into hardcore/gabber. It sounds like this guy is into either euro-style techno (Infected Mushroom, Midi Miliz, The Delta, Manmademan) or "techno without a beat" (Massive Attack, Fluke, some tracks of Fatboyslim). It's also possible that he could be using techno as a generic term of electronic music.

PatientSaint, could you define techno (or give some performers' names, clubs, etc.)? It means different sub-genres of electronic music to different people and I can't recommend any material if I don't know exactly what your taste is.

For kickback music, I like both ambient and triphop. My favorite artist under ambient is Aphex Twin and triphop DJ Krush. I mostly listen to pick-me-up music though, so my tastes in ambient and triphop are a bit limited. For trance, I like artists such as BT, Tiesto, Rabbit in the Moon, Thee-O, Delerium, DJ Tomcraft, and eN. Personally I would recommend listening to some streaming radio (especially now ASAP as the radio stations are dropping like flies because of the RIAA's new royalty arbitration) at Shoutcast (http://www.shoutcast.com) and going through the genres to find some artist names you like. You can also pick up some names by previewing tracks at mp3.com (http://www.mp3.com) (mp3.com requires registering before listening to tracks, but it is free, though I would recommend using a service like Spamhole (http://www.spamhole.com) to keep mp3.com from selling your address). You can get excellent electronic music of any genre your heart desires at Pure Acid Mixtapes (http://www.pureacidmixtapes.com).

Using a web search engine such as Google (http://www.google.com), you can find websites with names of events, promoters, clubs, etc. and start enjoying electronic music live (the way it was meant to be IMO).

Hope this helps, have phun :)
