here's the info you all want in case you don't want to bother reading the interview:

WinMX: I hesitate to give an estimation of how much longer it's going to take. There are many new features in the next version that we've already completed, but there are many others that we're still working on that could take a while. Anything that we carried over from the v3.x series had to be totally re-written to fit into the new architecture, which was also very time-consuming.

I'm hell-bent on getting this one right, and we're being very careful and not rushing things. I think it will be well worth the delay in the end.

All that being said, I'll give a very rough estimate of late October for WinMX v4.0 beta 1.

WinMx 4.0 is great, people who diss it can go hide on Earthstation if they want, but it's a great program. WinMx 3.3 or whatever was last had a leech problem. They should limit you to 1 download per say 20 files you share. Just starting out? Rip some cd's even if you stopped buying i know you have some.

Call me cynic but I wouldn't start celebrating until I see an actual download for it. Hopefully when it does come it will address some of the current problems.

:shy i hope winmx 4.0 beats the queing system joke i mean 110 in a que for a film unless you have broadband????in my opions winmesh is winning cause it reliable and gets the films i want quick,winmx second for good searches and uses but sort out the queing please???shareaza third connecting upto to multiple networks is cool but it is always pending and active after a hour what a joke,kaaza fourth users are going away slowly and not much is happening it is dying slowly so it is neck n neck my 100 quid goes on winmx to be the star of tommoro or why dont imesh n winmx team up and blow all all the others out ofd the water????

There is nothing wrong with the que system, let me explain. Most other programs start you right away with a small chunk of the file, when you recieve that small chunk you are then cycled out and the next person in line gets a start. This works fine with popular files, but for files that are rare(I.E. straight from the ripper), Its horrible. This fact causes networks to go stale with the same old shit. Time to move on.
When whenmx does connect you, you will stay connected to that person until the file is finished unless they cancel you or time out. This is ideal for traders which is rampant on whenmx, I do some myself(so shoot me). But is also Ideal for rippers, which is why you see such a large library on whenmx. Its just all the good shit is on the top shelf and your 5 foot 3".

But anyways, when i saw this thread i thought 4 was out damn it!

it's almost a year (oct 19, 2003) when 3.31 came out and i did a search on google for groups pertaining to winmx... my query came back that the system used by winmx was faulty from the start. i hope that 4.0 is better than the previous version, even with the opennap servers.

The developer's laptop motherboard got cooked, and the replacement is taking a while to fly in from overseas.

I've never been a big WinMX fan, but whatever they're doing that's taking so long definately has me interested.

I heard from intergalactic that WinMX 4 is not all that. Although he states in that unnerving metallic wail that winMX 7 is the cat's pajamas. I wish that he would just talk to me telekinetically, like normal, but he is trying to learn how to communicate like humans right now... those kids.

Yeah right. I almost feel like I have lived this event before. Oh wait, I have. Anyone remember when Morpheus was kicked off of Fasttrack and they said they only needed 2 more weeks to get a new version out ? What they neglected to mention was which planet's calender they were referring to. (I'm thinking Jupitor.)

I can feel the excitement building up in the p2p community as they anxiously anticipate this program, which looks as if it is going to be the "best ever" since everybody states so without knowing a damn thing about it!!!

Anyone know if they're overhauling their network? I am hoping it'll be something scalable and global. I have a hard time finding my music on most networks, mostly because they are either old-limited networks (fasttrack) or don't have enough users (G2).

neither do i, but for the improvements they are talking about making, i could wait quite a while...

stuff like multiple ui's (v2.6, 3.31, and a new v4 to choose from)
and less queue's
and better searches

are all worth the wait
