file splitting

Can anyone help. I'm d/ling a file that is 785 mb and I need to get it on to disk? or 2 disks thanks tipsterno1

I have a few ways for you.

Use winzip, then use the split function

Or, I found a program a while ago that does splitting, I'll attach it (can the mods trust me after how many posts I've made here? lol, its NOT a virus)

If it's a piece of video, you should be able to split it with Virtualdub (http://www.virtualdub.org/).

Just set both video and audio to direct stream copy, then set a beginning and ending and choose save as avi. Then repeat the process for the second half.

Whats the file extention? is it an Mpeg, is it a VCD?

Cuz . . . if its one of those. you dont have to split it to burn it.


Tell me the extention, not the media file name.

recode the file with www.vidomi.com

and choose a filesize with 699 MB

the file is rar but its gonna be a exe file its software

Why dont you just wait untill you have finished it, then extracted it to a folder of its own. Look for instructions that may come with it, open an Nfo file with Notepad.

Once the whole thing is laid out, and you see how many files and what the sizes are, you can probably answer your own question.

You say its going to be a program? that doesn't mean its going to be a .exe file. That would be about the right size for an .iso or .bin/.cue file. Which makes it ok to be bigger than 700 meg

unless of course the person is new to using virtual dub and doesnt know how to split the files then they should use winrar.
their are many a tutorial that you can use to split the file but if its a mpeg file you can use nero to burn the mpeg file to vcd.

but if not there are many choices to choose from.

I've got a movie file (divx .avi) that is 702 MB or 719.704 KB or 736.976.896 bytes. And when I try to burn it with Nero, it says there's not enough room on the (700 mb) disk, and spits it out. What should I do? Normally stuff like that burns just fine...

You are Sooo close to burning that movie !

Under File > Preferences > Expert Features, enable over burning. Try setting it to 84 Minutes. Close Nero Completely, then relaunch, and try to burn the CD again.

Also, your CD burner may not support overburning, but most do.

No, overburning was on 81 min, I set it to 84, but it still wont burn...
Can I put overburning any higher? Caus I heard it can damage your cd-recorder... And yes, my recorder supports overburning..

If 84 won't do it, you have to be bytes off. .RAR it or .ZIP it, it should fit
