View Full Version : Shareaza is 'slowly' scanning and processing my files -?

I just tonight downloaded/ installed the second last official Shareaza. (I'm not getting much with Kazaa Lite these days.) It looks nice. I don't know what all the settings are about, but it doesn't look like I will be hobbled by my ignorance here.

However, I'm mystified by something. I passed on using the Shareaza folder for my downloads (but kept the Shareaza partial downloads folder), and instead directed my Shareaza downloads to my Kazaa Lite Shared Folder. Then with Shareaza attempting to connect, I saw that Shareza was scanning and processing my 936 files. But that was going extremely slow. Now, That's fine by me. I'll just go to bed and check things out in the morning. But is that slowness normal?

Thanks.

Yes this is normal since it has to create a hash value for G1 G2 and E donkey based networks, it is amazing it works as "fast" as it does.

So, no worries, this IS normal.

Well, actually, there is an easy way to speed this up.

On the home page on the left side there is an info box that says what file Shareaza is now hashing. There is also a little link under it that says "Click here to hash faster" This basically does a quick and dirty version of the first hash process, which instead of doing 5-10 or so files a minute, its more like 50 a minute. When you click it, it will change to "click here to hash slower" so don't touch it again

EDIT. I think it could also be due to the fact that its your Kazaa Lite folder. For some reason, it takes a long ass time to hash the incomplete Kazaa dat files, so make sure you get the latest beta version of Shareaza (1.8.9.17) Which now skips those files and has a new interface. (The one you have might not be the one with the "Click here to hash faster" link on the homepage and they fixed the problem where it didn't hash new files)

Thanks folks. I was reulctant to download the latest Shareza. I suppose, seeing how this one hasn't gotten far with the file scan and process, I might profitably dump it and start fresh with the latest. Hopefully this isn't where everything I have goes to pooh as a result. That latest version is beta afterall. And no, it wouldn't be an adventure for this newby.

Are you sure the faster hashes won't have a damaging or negative effect?
