Does anyone have any suggestions on a good portable MP3 player that I can buy and hook up to my car stereo? I will probably use a car connection kit and need an MP3 player that is easy to use with decent memory. :sw

The apple ipod, can be used on both windows, and mac platforms. It can easily hook up to the radio with a special kit.

i'd use creative's nomad, it comes with everything youneed. With the ipod you have to be that extra thing it's like 1/5 the cost of the ipod

i love my ipod, but the newest version of them do not work as well as the older ones. Ive had some battery trouble and there are some issues with the id3 tags. When searching by artist, i get 2pac 2Pac 2PaC and 2 Pac. They all allow me to hear everyone 2pac song i have, but its annoying when your list is filled with these.

ipod.

yea, its more expensive, but you pay for quality.

how many people can say their mp3 player has fallen 4 feet onto asphalt and only gotten a little scratch in it?

i can. my ipod didn't skip, stop, break into little pieces, etc.

if you want plastic, buy a nomad. if you want a big boy toy, buy an ipod.

I was thinking about getting a mp3 player but i hear that players can not read the newer audio types ie: lame mp3s, ogg, etc

The ones ive been thinking of buying could only play standard mp3, wma and mp3pro.

It would be a hassle to re-encode the mp3s with additional loss of quality.

If you can afford it, go with the iPod. If you can't, try Creative or other alternatives - it's as simple as that.

The iPod is, hands-down, the best MP3 player you could own. End of story.

I got a 30 gig first generation Nomad Jukebox. It does the job, the lousy battery life makes a power adapter in the car a must. If it comes to quality, size, and looks, the ipod'd be my choice of player. With ephpod (http://www.ephpod.com/) there's finally an alternative to MusicMatch (yuck!) for Windows users. As far as handling a large music library like mine however, Nomad (http://www.extremetech.com/article2/0,3973,1179837,00.asp) currently wins with its 60 gig Zen.

I have a Treo 15, it looks like shit, if its dropped it would probably smash into a thousand pieces. But its cheap it has a 15 gig hard drive and the sound quality is excellent.

I had an older Apex wired up with a HD...worked pretty good till the power on it kinda toasted...lol smelled like shit.

Basically it was an older Apex that had standard IDE/Molex for the DVD drive...just packed a HD fulla audio got it in and powered up...it 'saw' mp3's and just went into mp3 mode...no questions asked.

I guess the HD slowly beat the poor power regulator down though so it's not viable...
