I don't usually talk much, but I figure I should tell you guys what is going on.
Originally I bought the domain and had is residing on a host that I paid for to enable Dr. Damn to distribute his files. I didn't have enough bandwidth on it for the files, but I gave him my isp account to use... http://webpages.charter.net/cleanclients if you still want the files.
Anyway my intention originally was to move him to a colocated server eventually, once I got it rebuilt, but I had a falling out with the guy who was going to get me the account (It's a special hosting company that you need contacts to get into) and that isn't going to happen. It didn't matter anyway...
My plan was to move it to a full time server on a 155 mbit line in two months, one that I had full control over... I was hoping this hosting account would hold up until then...
Anyway here, read this(It's a live help conversation with the host):
BEN : How can I help you
alliercollins : Hi, I would like to discuss my web account being shut down...
alliercollins : I tried doing this through the help desk, but it no longer appears to work
BEN : your domain name please
alliercollins : alliecollins.com
BEN : let me check
BEN : do you have addon domain?
alliercollins : yes, i had a few, but the only one that was up at that point, due to your server getting hacked, was drdamn.com
BEN : yes it was terminated due to copyright vilation
alliercollins : well then I have a few questions, starting with what exactly was it in violation of?
BEN : wait a sec
BEN : http://www.drdamn.com/ > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > http://drdamn.alliecollins.com/cleanclients/ > > > > >
BEN : these beeing abude copyright vilation
BEN : abuse
alliercollins : they weren't hosted on the server #1, that was just a mirror script... #2 in a court ruling, those clients were deemed legal to use and distribute...
alliercollins : why was I not informed of this closing of the website?
BEN : well, it was jsut terminted by datacenter
BEN : adn our server was down for 2 hours
BEN : and 200 accounts were down
alliercollins : it hasn't been up for three weeks. I was under the assumption you had been hacked again
BEN : No
BEN : what we can do is
alliercollins : who showed proof of copyright?
BEN : take off those document
BEN : and will put you in our new server
BEN : datacenter
alliercollins : I mean who showed them, who said something was wrong with it?
BEN : datacenter
alliercollins : all there was on the site was a a css style sheet, a few mirror scripts, and a few html pages... All of which were custom written and in no way were illegal. I am lost as to how exactly it could be deemed illegal and why exactly i was not contacted immediatly to correct the problem
alliercollins : Who told the datacenter that it was illegal is what I am asking
alliercollins : No files even touched your "datacenter", I am lost as to how it could be considered copyright to distribute legal freeware, freeware which never touched your "datacenter"
BEN : we will do more investigation for you
BEN : mean time we cna create new account and our new server
alliercollins : alright, I would appreciate that for now
I will continue to see what I can do about this.. Just wanted to let you all know.
