i might go for it if it's cheap enough, at least i can have music w/o having to be sued.
i'll still use P2P for japanese music.

how old are you? serious question... and how long have you been using p2p?
napster used to be a program where you would just go in and connect to a cluster of servers, and then when you did a search, it went thru the servers, and you got results almost instantly. it was hella fast.
but it was centralized.
and once it started gaining popularity, it ticked off the riaa, so they sued it. they eventually ended up adding filters so you couldn't share copyrighted files, and the network turned to crap. people got around it though... but only the smart ones (smart ones would be the people who use kazaa lite instead of kmd).
then the network got shut done completely.
then they got bought by roxio, and now this. apparently they think using the name napster will help them out a lot here. i think it will be like rhapsody and the others. just another failed attempt.
btw, i will not be using the new napster.

Napster is the grandaddy of all p2p programs, i dont think any other programs have come close to napster.....If hte new one is anything like the old one than i will probably give it a shot. But since Roxio bought it out im seriosuly doubting it will be......

dude! i've been around p2p all my life ever since napster and audiogalaxy. i know napster kicked ass and will always be remembered, but now that its going to be a paid service by roxio, i don't think it will survive for very long! i mean i might try it for a month to see if its any good but if it isn't im just gonna wait for winmx 4.0 to come out!

1st thing homeya, chill the hell out!, damn he was asking for opinions not flames. 2nd of all it would be literally impossible to make a pay-to-play service free, there has been plenty of PTP (Pay to Play) apps ouyt there, like you said such as rhapsody, but has anyone SUCCESSFULLY hacked that service and made it free, nope!. 3rd it would still be dead. There was only 1 napster, and there will always be one napster thats dead. This just uses tha 'Napster' name. In isus's words 'How old are you?'
EDIT: Forgot, Yeah i would pay but for unlimited burning, and a small monthly pay, with of course a WIDE amount of artists.

ok so maybe i went a lil harsh on this guy! and ya thats true, no pay-to-play program has been hacked ***YET*** but i hope one day these pay-to-play programs will be hacked and or shut down, because they are just ruining the p2p world!

wrong again, like i said it would be impossible to hack PtP services because of their massive amount of 'security measures', and how exactly are they ruining the P2P world?, are the companies that own them buy out free P2P apps?, no. p2p can not be ruined, simply put because of the 1st reason that p2p was born. We were tired of overpriced cd's so if we actually get a good deal then obviously it can be CLEARLY seen that the P2P world has won the battle, hell maybe even the war. Were slowly heading there, low costs are the main priority but until then keep sharin.

untill then stop making threads about napster!
First of all you're not NO ONE to tell people what for them to do and not to do. The people who should say that are the Mods on these Forums untill then Shut up.
i don't think it will survive for very long!
Mp3Masta why has ITunes survived eh?, what are you going to say ITunes is dead?. They're selling I dont know how many Millions of files a week and also Mac has p2p services that connect to Kazaa, so something like "OH" it's cause Mac aint got no p2p services that'll be totally bullshit.
dude! i've been around p2p all my life ever since napster and audiogalaxy.
From all the bullshit you say doesnt even seem you've been around p2p for atleast 1 year.

I wouldn't pay for it either (neo-napster). It 's not gonna be the same. As for iTunes it's a step in the right dierection but I don't know why neone would pay 99 cents a song. That 's 2 expensive. Low monthly fees and unlimited burning should be the way to go.

their MAKING all these new pay services for one reason only, to GET THe users who are getting sued will flock and get scared of illegally downloading and go to the pay service.. ITS propaganda, making these new pay services to be ready for the scare tactics to take place and rush them to their arms.

I already pay monthly fees for downloading music.........to my CABLE COMPANY!
This is why I have cable. This is why I shell out the $50/month. For music. For Movies. Unlimited. I wouln't even think of having it if I couldn't do this. What good is broadband if it's use was reduced to 'fast web page loading' or 'better ping times in games'.
No damn good. That's what.
I flat-out refuce to pay another another cent more, over the cable fee. EVER! I am sorry that the music industry didn't think about this sooner and invested in ISPs. Their fault. Not mine.
