I'm looking for a good MP3 player for windows. I would like to load all of my files (about 10,000 MP3's) into a playlist and set the player to random. I would also like to be able to search the play list to locate certain songs when I need them. Winamp 3 has a pretty good interface for this, the only trouble is that is is extremely slow when I load my full playlist into it. Winamp 2 seems to be much faster... but it doesn't have the easy search function. Of the other players I've tried Real, Windows media, Musicmatch are all pretty much worthless. Horrible confusing interfaces, and just as slow. It seems all of these players are trying to throw in everything they possibly can. I don't need movie players, web browsers, skins, thingers etc. Are there any simple mp3 players which are light on the CPU/RAM?

WinAmp 2.9 is really good, all the best features of Winamp 2.x and 3.x plus if you wanna search for something just press "J" for jump and type what you want to find.

I'm aware of this, but it's still annoying compared to how easy it is with other software. With winamp 2 a seperate window pops up only to close as soon as you select a song. And it's also impossible to select more than one song. The search function on winamp 3 is beautiful. A small search box at the bottom of the playlist which shows the results in a split window allowing you to select one or many songs to be either played immediately or queued. If only the rest of winamp 3 wasn't such a piece of crap.
Maybe a simple mp3 player with a good search function is too much to ask.

i like both winamp and coolplayer. Coolplayer is a lot faster than winamp and it is also skinnable like winamp. It has a very small executable, and it doesn't have an installer also. You can import and export winamp formatted playlists with it also.
However, it does not have the visualization effects, the browser, and the video player like winamp 3.x. But do really use most of that?

One of the best players in regards to light resources is Foobar (http://foobar2000.hydrogenaudio.org/)
It is highly configurable with only the options you want. I would recommend it to anyone. Sound quality is great with kernal streaming.
I would also look into XmPlay, but I think you'll really find that Foobar is what you're looking for.

so your talking about a portable mp3 player??..if so next time specify clearly what u wanted heh
either go with a jukebox mp3 player if ya have the cash, the majority of ppl would recommend ipod
if your low on cash i would recommend an mp3 cd player , might only get about 500 files or so, but the media is chaep as hell..CDRS..can get a 50pack for 5bucks or less ..just need to make a data cd can burn folders and or mp3 list..few good players i liked are iriver 2 or soulplayer, they have excellent features supports more then just mp3 format and firmware is upgradable
