I'm wondering if anyone has the same problem as me with sharing and browsing on winmx. It seems that i can only share 2500 files out of 7500 that i have available. also when i browse a user I can only see 2500 files even if they have alot more. I've tried to find some way of changing this. I've even e-mailed winmx but got no reply. Anyone help please.

This is quite a possibility, though I don't know what the limits are on WinMX. Most "opennap" servers have limits like that too. Personally I think they should allow one to share 20,000 files, but did you know that if you were to actually have that many, that anytime you logged into the network or someone browsed your files, that approximately 2 MB would be needed of traffic to transfer that file information? By limiting you to 2500 files, the server will only send out about 250 KB when someone browses your files.

They do this because it creates server lag and bad uptime for Opennap servers. Most of these servers do.But I don't .:gj

I found some openNap servers that let me share and browse 5000. Makes WinMX worth while again for mp3's. In my opinion the best source for mp3's now since the demise of AG.

U can share as many as you want.
They are all searchable, but you can browse only 2500

SJ, that is not true, read above. you need to connect with openap and you can browse 5000. trust me when users are only downloadin A-H on my list that,s 2500 unless you are connected to openap

it all depends on what open/slavanap server/network u are on.
there are networks that set a share maximum to 2500 other set it to 12000 ( me :-D ) and for browsing, browsing a user on a linked server can cause lag, especially when it happens i high numbers, so most servers/networks have that set to a lower number ( around 500 is the average ) it can also happen that when u browse sumone that u will see no files at all, this is due to the option to disallow browsing of a user on a linked server when serverlag is noticed. ( dont know if this is a option in opennap aswell).

max_browse_result how many files you can browse. default=500
max_results how many files you get in a search. default=100
max_shared how many files you can share. default=5000
remote_browse set to off (0) or on (1). default=1 This affects whether you can browse from linked servers.
