Blubster & Router Configuration...

Can anyone help me configure my router to work with Blubster? I have a Siemens SpeedStream 2604 4-port cable router and according to Blubster I need to change the Protocol to UDP and the Port to 41170...and of course I have no idea how to do this. Thanks :o)

Assuming you know how to acces the software by entering you local computer ip addy in your browser. You must because your using the dang thing.


Login:
Go to the service tab and enter new service: Blubster
Change default type to UDP
and start and finish port is 41170

Yeah I have a router myself, but BLubster just works with it. I didn't have to do any configuring. If I did have to, I would try what Freakin said. You need the routers IP thing, if you set it up yourself, then you probably know it.

Otherwise if someone came out and did it, then you just need to look into the manual and find the Ip.

I'm sure krell could help you out more too.

Thanks so much for posting and trying to help me out...as a matter of fact, yes I do know how to do all that, I was messing with it all day today and learned a great deal...I actually did exactly what Freakin told me (and then tried it again just now) and it still doesn't seem to work. Is there something I need to do to the actual router after I apply the settings? Anyway, I'm more curious now than anything else...if this doesn't work I'll just resort to Kazaa Lite I guess :o)

OK to back up do you have the latest firmware? Go to that link I gave you and check out how to verify your firmware. VERY IMPORTANT! Go into the knowledge base and click on the 2600 folder on the left. and look at the how to's for firmware and troubleshooting.
There is also a great knowledge base there that is way better than trusting my limited knowledge, although I did own one of these but got rid of it for a D-Link 614+

Are you using XP's firewall by any chance? There is an internal Firewall in XP that I think is active by default. Although, shit I don't remember how to turn the damn thing on or off????

OK and one other thing is there a tab marked special applications? If so then maybe I sent you to the wrong area to make the port change. Look under Special apps in your browser as you have before:

This screen can be reached by clicking the Special Applications button on the Internet screen.You can then define your Special Applications. You will need detailed information about the application; this is normally available from the supplier of the application.

Also, note that the terms "Incoming" and "Outgoing" on this screen refer to traffic from the client (PC) viewpoint.

Using Your Web Browser to Access the Internet Screen

To establish a connection from your PC to the DSL/Cable Router:

1. After installing the DSL/Cable Router in your LAN, start your PC. If your PC is already running, restart it.

2. Start your Web browser.

3. In the Address box, enter the IP Address of the DSL/Cable Router. By default this is http://192.168.254.254.

Data - Special Applications Screen

Checkbox

Use this to Enable or Disable this Special Application as required. Name Enter a descriptive name to identify this Special Application.

Incoming Ports

• Type - Select the protocol (TCP or UDP) used when you receive data from the special application or service. (Note: Some applications usedifferent protocols for outgoing and incoming data).

• Start - Enter the beginning of the range of port numbers used by the application server, for data you receive. If the application uses a singleport number, enter it in both the "Start" and "Finish" fields.

• Finish - Enter the end of the range of port numbers used by the application server, for data you receive.

Outgoing Ports

• Type - Select the protocol (TCP or UDP) used when you send data to the remote system or service.

• Start - Enter the beginning of the range of port numbers used by the application server, for data you send to it. If the application uses a single port number, enter it in both the "Start" and "Finish" fields.

• Finish - Enter the end of the range of port numbers used by the application server, for data you send to it. If the application uses a single port number, enter it in both the "Start" and "Finish" fields.

Using a Special Application

• Configure the Special Applications screen as required.

• On your PC, use the application normally. Remember that only one (1) PC can use each Special Application at any time. Also, when 1 PC is finished using a particular Special Application, there may need to be a "Time-out" before another PC can use the same SpecialApplication. The "Time-out" period may be up to 3 minutes.

FW if none of this works then I have exausted my abilities. Good Luck! BTW, This special apps area is the area I have to use from my Dlink router to hook up to any P2P. With your router, funny thing is they don't mention it in the user guide do they?
