View Full Version : WTF..'clean' Blubster tries to install Gator
MikeHunt

Paging dr. damn..... LOL... ....today I went to use 'clean' Blubster and low and behold ....there on the home page ....was the infamous GATOR advertisement...you know the one -that-will-make-your-computers-clock-accurate (while spying on you and infesting your computer)
How did that get in there???
Apparently 'clean' Blubster isn't really clean....or ...a new version is in order .... FYI:tilted
I want to add that if you click anywhere on the 'advertisment' (in an effort to get rid of it...or close it)...it immediately ..and I do mean immediately....starts downloading Gator on your system .
forewarned is foreskinned

what website did you download clean blubster from? if it's not off www.drdamn.com than you're taking a risk. i've used the version of dr.damn's site and it works fine, no spyware.

What is the homepage? Its not the fault of Blubster, its the advertisements in the homepage, which has NOTHING to do with blubster.

for sure ...that's where I downloaded it from ...I didnt know there was anywhere else to get 'clean' Blubster from.
It has dr. damn's name and version shown when it opens.
Until today 'clean' Blubster worked great no adds etc,,
usually the good dr's. programs.. work quite well...thats why I posted this here. ..ñ Mike

...let me get this straight ....phalkon30....it's not Blubster's fault that there is advertising on their homepage in the program...?? ...????
Who's fault is it?
Why then do you think there is a 'clean' version of Blubster?

Ok, might have worded that strange.
You still haven't told us where the homepage goes.
Really, its not Blubsters fault for the banner ads in blubster. DrDamn must point it to another website that has advertising. Nothing is installed unless you tell it to.
Or maybe I just misunderstood your post.

Hey is Dr. Damns version supose to display the banner, and is it also supose to have pop-ups? Because I get both of those. Man the pop-ups tick me off, and I've run adaware many times

I think we have a serious problem...

sorry phalkon30 ...I didn't mean to be such a smart-ass...and maybe I should have explained myself better..
When you boot up the clean version (dr.damn's) of Blubster ...when you go to the home page in the program w/ Blubster's name and logo ...hovering and jiggling just above the bottom border of the home page...as of today...there is the afore-mentioned Gator advert.
People say Gator/ Gain is harmless..... just run Ad-Aware or Spy Bot ...to get rid of it...well IMHO ....there's more to it...it imbeds itself in your registery and it is very difficult to remove all its components, once you are infected.
It's one of the worst.... just below xupiter

I've never actually used the program, so its I'm a bit lost, but I'll take your word for it.
I completely agree with you on the Gator thing, it is nasty, I think they were actually taken to court a while back about how nasty it is.

Err..I got dr.damn's version and I get nothing like that...
I think there might be a pop up from time to time when you start up Blubster but there definitely isnt any gator around

sorry to say ...evil dweller...etc....I checked again this morning ...its still there!
On the Blubster homepage (when you boot up the program) hovering just above the lower border it says 'System Tray Update'...the box IS a GATOR advert. ... as I indicated above.

I've used it and I haven't seen gator come up.

Mikehunt- I have used clean Blubster and never seen any indication of Gator so thats strange that you have it on your system. Did you download anything else around the same time that might have installed Gator with it ?
I know from pervious experience that Gator is a very nasty program and most spyware removal tools will not necessarily remove every link buried in your registry. You may need to edit your registry yourself to remove them.
The link below should be helpful in geeting the information you need to get rid of gator permanently

@brycen257....I know you meant well ...but please re-read my post.
No, I dont have gator on my system.
Starting about a week ago 'clean' Blubster HAS a gator advert hovering just above the lower margin of the front home page, when you first load the program..(in fact its hard to see - only about a ½ " of the advert box sticks up above the lower margin)
....It says System Tray Update.
Its a Flash Popunder ..I believe is what its called.
Sure.. I get/got rid of it ,using the usual spyware tools - but that wasnt my point.
If you try to click on it to get rid of it...or move it....it agressively tries to get you to download a gator infested accurate-computer-clock-program.
I posted this info here so people dont get tricked or burned into installing Gator...and to let the people know that 'clean' Blubster isn't any more.
( I even double checked on a friends computer running 'clean' Blubster - before I posted this thread)
I use Spyware Blaster to keep it off my system - a GREAT program ...that's free.

Dr. Damn's website has been down for a while. I thought it might be my computer and when to a friend's. Same thing. Page can't be displayed. I really liked his website. What happened? I Liked his Blubster 2.5 without all the crap in it.

Im not worried, they make their own claim on the website that they are online behavioral marketers who sell information based off other peoples computers.
When there is software on the internet specifically built to uninstall your software, then there is obviously a big problem.

yup...a blast from the past....now you know.
I'm sure Dr. Damn did his best ...but somehow Blub was still able to feature a 'download-me-I-will-set-your-computers-clock-correctly-and spy-on-you-gator' function..that hovers just above the bottom horizon on the home page of the 'clean' program.
Use Piolet instead..Same network ...no spyware

MikeHunt - Reading this old threat I think I realise what you mean. There is a Gator advert on Blubster's start page. That means nothing. The ad is in the official Blubster site. Dr Damn's version is 100% spy/adware clean.
