When I had a PC with 500mhz cpu and a 10gig hdd i tried all those mem turbo things. Total crap. They give you a very convincing little graph to look at but nothing nix nowt is going to make your "elastic band and a stick" processor into a P4. And if you find a way to make your drive bigger let me know first.
Right now HDDs are amazingly cheap,CPU also and RAM is pretty cheap too. So spend some bucks on the hardware, everything else is free!

i realize i shouldn't even waste my time trying to explain it, but those are RAM (memory) enhancers (which are worthless, especially since more RAM is slightly more expensive than dirt)

RAM is not "space", it is a temporary spot (think of it as a parking spot on a busy street, cars come and go all day long)

a better solution would be to add more RAM (parking spots) than kicking the parked people out (the "drivers" get pissed and system instability is the result)

now if by "space" you meant hard drive, then all you can do is delete stuff (or compress, but nobody does that anymore)

this is the best solution if you have osx and anything less than 256mb ram.

if you just wanna do a little maintenance, go find cocktail, somewhere on versiontracker.com or google it ("cocktail osx")

once you have cocktail, just use autopilot i think it is called. it gives me back usually about 50mb of ram (on 256mb). another thing that has temporary effects is opening up msie for osx, and going somewhere with a huge dl (one of adobes 200mb trial things). start to dl it.

bc microsoft doesnt write great code, it will try to allocate 200mb in ram. after all the write-outs (when the hard drive stops making a helluva noise, cancel the dl and quit msie.

obviously, after paging out 200mb of ram, pretty much anything you do will start to bring it back, but... it cleans out the 'inactive' of any crap you would have.

also, i suggest menumeters (versiontracker or google as "menumeters osx") and then turning on the ram meter. when you click on the menu button, it will show you how much ram is active, inactive, wired, etc... it will also tell you the number of pageouts. if your pageouts is bigger than your pageins, you definitely, 100%, no questions asked, need more ram.
