i was wondering how i would be able to take screenshots of videos on my computer as in avi& mpeg files whenever i press print screen button all i get is a black screen when trying t oget a video still shot

Most players (eg. BSPlayer, CrystalPlayer) allow screenshots. If you uncheck the use overlays option in WMP9 that should let you take shots as well.

Ares Media Player let's you "grab-it"

Which does exactly what you want and it puts it in any picture format you want..jpg, gif, w/e
